Former 90 Day Fiancé cast members Ben Rathbun and Mahogany Roca have shocked fans after getting engaged in Peru. Ben, 52, was working as a fitness model when 22-year-old Mahogany came across his photos and sent him a friend request. But while Ben wore his heart on his sleeve for the young woman from Peru, she was hesitant in trusting a man she met on the Internet. It had been three months after they started talking online that Ben decided to get married to Mahogany, whom he’d never seen in person. But to make things even more complicated, he had also never spoken to Mahogany on the phone or a video call, and she was lying to him about her age and address.
When Ben flew to Lima to see his future wife in person, Mahogany kept refusing to meet him, further adding to rumors of her being a catfish. When she finally met Ben after many 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days episodes, Mahogany didn’t look anything like the woman in her photos. She spoke Spanish with an accent, and fans found proof Mahogany had been a drama school student. Some fans thought both Ben and Mahogany were actors in a scripted 90 Day Fiancé storyline, especially when she kept refusing to accept him as her boyfriend and finally did when he apparently went to meet her again without a film crew. While Ben and Mahogany’s relationship status after the Tell-All remained a mystery, they launched a joint YouTube channel in May, which confirmed they were still together.
However, the latest video on Ben and Mahogany’s YouTube channel not only revealed that they’re going strong but also that they are now engaged to be married. The video starts off with Ben walking by the beach in Lima and confessing he discussed having a future and kids with Mahogany, even though it would be “a really hard, hard journey” because people wouldn’t understand their love. Ben meets Mahogany in Miraflores as both admit they made the YouTube channel so people know who they really are. The next clip is 90 Day Fiancé celeb Ben visiting a jewelry shop and purchasing an 18-carat white gold ring, which is from Paris. “I’m in love with this just like I’m in love with Mahogany,” Ben laughs. He adds that no one believed in him and Mahogany, and no one thought it was possible, “but I am going to make her my wife.”
Ben then takes viewers with him to La Milonga del SanTito, which is the restaurant featured on 90 Day Fiancé where he finally met Mahogany in person. It’s where he also proposes to Mahogany. Mahogany has said yes to being Ben’s wife, and they are also joined by Mahogany’s dad, who gave the couple his blessing. Ben and Mahogany are excited and amazing to be fiancés. “She’s off the market, everybody,” Ben adds as the video then features a slideshow of Ben and Mahogany on various dates, hugging, and the law student flaunting the rock on her finger.
While fans may not have enjoyed watching Ben and Mahogany on 90 Day Fiancé, the relationship seems to be more real than ever. TLC may have had a part to play in fans thinking that Ben and Mahogany were not made for each other by giving them a possible catfish storyline, which eventually didn’t even matter. But Ben and Mahogany seem to be making a comeback to TV soon as they were spotted filming in Peru at the end of July when they celebrated Fiestas Patrias. Now that they are engaged, Ben will be planning for Mahogany to move to the U.S., so it’s likely that the couple could appear in 90 Day Fiancé season 10.
