Ben Rathbun may not have confirmed if he’s still together with Mahogany Roca after 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, but he’s using Instagram to defend his 22-year-old Peruvian girlfriend. At 52, Ben made his debut on 90 Day Fiancé with a story about him falling in love with a woman 30 years younger than him. Ben’s actions were seen as creepy and perverted, but Mahogany also came across as the queen of manipulation. Fans at first thought she wasn’t real due to her not posting a single photo without a filter and also refusing to talk to Ben on video. But not all of Mahogany’s lies were addressed during the Tell-All, leaving fans with more questions about her than before.
Since Ben has been an unreliable narrator, fans had a hard time trusting him when he claimed Mahogany had lied to him about her age. However, Mahogany confirmed she added two years to her original age because she didn’t want to share her personal information with a stranger online. She admitted to never loving Ben but did decide to get back together with him during his second Peru trip when she kept avoiding him throughout 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days season 5. She cleverly dodged all accusations thrown at her and somehow made them all Ben’s problems. Mahogany even ended up manipulating Ben’s friend into choosing her over him, and Jessica ended up calling Ben a liar, a narcissist, a fraud and everything in between.
However, lovestruck Ben is all about being supportive of Mahogany, despite their shocking Tell-All segment. Ben posted an unseen selfie of himself and Mahogany on Instagram where he called her “one of the kindest, most sincere and loving people” he has ever met. He blamed her actions looking faulty on her reality TV edit. He wrote, “TV gives a very small heavily edited sample of who someone is.” According to him, Mahogany is wise because she didn’t accept him “unconditionally” into her life.
Mahogany was right to question his intentions because he “came with an entire TV show,” Ben said. He claimed that people will never know what she is like in real life. “Off camera, she has a beautiful heart,” he added in conclusion. Meanwhile, his comments saw an influx of fans wanting to know why Mahogany’s fake apartment was never addressed during the Tell-All. Some asked why she didn’t decline to be on 90 Day Fiancé if it was the reason why she was so distrusting of him. “There is always 3 sides to a story…hers, his, and the truth which we will all probably never really know,” wrote a TLC viewer.
Fans are upset that they never got to find out the real story of Ben and Mahogany since most of what they saw on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days looked scripted. At the end of the Tell-All, Mahogany didn’t have an answer when asked if she considered Ben to be her boyfriend. She still seemed to doubt his intentions, even though they have strangely been pretty clear right from the start. Ben may try to defend Mahogany all he wants, but as Kim Menzies pointed out, she is likely to have been running game on the father of four all along.
