The mess that is Jay Smith and Ashley Martson's relationship has captivated 90 Day Fiancé fans. Fans were happy to see the toxic couple split and move onto healthier lives. Naturally, it came as a huge surprise when Ashley revealed that she and Jay are on talking terms now.
Ashley and Jay were initially featured on season 6 of 90 Day Fiancé after the two met when Ashley was in Jamaica for a friend’s wedding. They eventually married in the spring of 2018 in Las Vegas, and just days after their wedding, Ashley discovered that Jay had sent messages to women on Tinder. At the end of their first 90 Day Fiancé season, Ashley was already having reservations about filing Jay's green card paperwork due to the issues regarding his loyalty. Audiences have been following the couple on season 4 of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?, where it was revealed that Jay had sex with another woman while married to Ashley. Fans watched as she kicked him out of her house and filed for divorce. The on-again-off-again relationship continued when she pulled the divorce papers and then after more cheating allegations, refiled them. After a very messy and public split where they've taken turns attacking and bashing each other publicly, it confused fans to see the exes being cordial to each other on social media.
There have been rumors this past month that Jay and Ashley were back together after Jay broke up with his girlfriend and was seen at the same party as Ashley. Just hours before Jay's 22nd birthday on October 8th, Ashley posted a happy birthday message and tagged Jay in it. She poked fun at him, writing, "Happy Birthday, Loser!" Jay reposted the message from his estranged wife and added "Thanks Punk" to the message. She then reposted his message with a laugh/crying emoji. This whole Instagram exchange left fans confused as to what is happening. Ashley went to InTouch to set the record straight. She said, "Jay and I have been talking since I chose to drop the PFA." Ashley was granted a Protection From Abuse (PFA) over the summer after Jay allegedly violated the terms of the PFA by posting about Ashley and the PFA on Instagram. The violation led to Jay's arrest, where he was immediately transferred from his one day sentence in jail to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody due to not having a valid US visa.
He spent four weeks in custody while his then-girlfriend had set up a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for legal fees to free him. After the court ruled that Jay would be allowed to stay in America, it seemed that Ashley wouldn't be getting her revenge by getting him deported back to Jamaica after all. However, it seems that all of their online bashing and fighting is over. Ashley explained, "We are not back together, just cordial." She continued, "[We are] trying to get our divorce and immigration figured out." She then added, "We both made a ton of mistakes and chose to forgive."
It seems that this unpredictable couple is doing their best to remain amicable through the remainder of their split. It has some fans confused and wondering if it's even possible for these explosive exes to remain just friends, which has some fans worried that the 90 Day Fiancé alumni are in fact together and are just hiding it from fans. It remains to be seen how this will play out for the two of them.
