Before appearing on 90 Day Fiancé, Ashley Martson went to Jamaica for a wedding. There she met Jay Smith, an aspiring tattoo artist eleven years her junior. Jay quickly moved to America, and the two married in May 2018. But their relationship was rocky from the start. The Pennsylvanian found her new husband on Tinder, the first of numerous times she caught Jay cheating. Exhausting on again/off again drama followed, with Ashley filing for divorce twice. At one point, Jay was almost deported, a common occurrence for the show's cast. But earlier this year, the Smiths insisted they were back together and happier than ever.

Unsurprisingly, it didn't last. In September, Ashley and Jay once again announced they were divorcing. And this time, they emphasized, it was for good. At first, they presented the split as amicable. People reported that, in a since deleted Instagram post, Ashley said "it just didn't work out". Though she referenced Jay's history of infidelity, she claimed "no one cheated" this time. But the peaceful facade didn't last long at all.

A month laster, Ashley gained attention by posting an Instagram video of her dancing in front of her home's ring cameras. She claimed the stunt was to call out Jay for not removing himself from the account. Soon after this, she contradicted the original divorce announcement in a tearful TikTok video. According to The Blastthe single mom revealed she divorced Jay because he reignited an affair with a stripper. She even apologized for not being honest initially, claiming "In that moment, I was so weak, I couldn't take public opinions and deal with the trolls." While the marriage didn't work out, she's taking advantage of the career opportunities from her reality tv fame. The 34-year-old launched a lipstick line, posts sponsored content on Instagram, and has an OnlyFans account. The York, Pennsylvania, resident blasted TLC for their low pay in an Instagram Q&A, indicating why many alums start OnlyFans accounts. Her name on social media is still Ashley Smith. In addition to her career, she continues to devote herself to her two kids.

Like his ex-wife, Jay pulled back the curtain on the TLC hit. He told InTouch that the Tinder incident was actually scripted, claimed it portrayed the relationship inaccurately, and said he regrets doing the show. Jay's focus these days is on his career as a tattoo artist. He regularly posts his work on the business Instagram account. Ashley said his tattoo shop was started with her money, but she transferred everything to Jay. This was part of her mission to completely cutting herself out of his life. Though his location is still listed as York, Pennsylvania, Ashley claimed not to know where he lives.

Ashley and Jay are far from the first former 90 Day Fiancé stars to blast the show. Previous cast members have also expressed regret for being on it. And others have made claims about fake storylines. But despite the accusations and rumors, the show remains a huge hit for TLC.
