90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way viewers are calling Ariela Weinberg a hypocrite for not using a car seat for baby Avi in Kenya when she previously lashed out at Biniyam Shibre for the same reason. Episode 11 of the 90 Day Fiancé spin-off saw Ariela leaving America and flying to Kenya to resolve her differences with Bini. Having had accused Biniyam of cheating, Ariela is making it clear how close she is to leaving him. However, TLC viewers are finding it difficult to sympathize with Ari as she’s not even giving Biniyam a chance to explain himself.
When Ariela and Biniyam were taking their newborn son Aviel home from the hospital on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 2, she argued over the car he had arranged for not having a baby seat. Back then, Biniyam tried to make Ariela understand that in Ethiopia it's not mandatory for a vehicle to have a car seat for a baby’s safety like is the norm in the U.S. He argued that locals just hold their babies during a car ride. However, Ariela made him step out of the car and walk home with the baby in the heat as she couldn’t just “hold him.” It was Ariela overreacting that irked Biniyam who, because he wanted to avoid a fight, got out of the car and walked home with the baby in one hand and an umbrella in the other. Biniyam said that walking this way on the road was even more dangerous because he could have tripped or fallen in the harsh weather.
The scene made 90 Day Fiancé viewers uncomfortable enough for them to remember it when they saw Ariela do the exact opposite of what she had preached when she landed in Kenya. Ariela had a car seat for Aviel when she left her home in Princeton for the airport. But after Ariela reached Mombasa following the 24-hour brutal trip, she got into a van with mother Janice and Avi to head to the apartment she’d rented for three months, no car seat in sight. Reddit user 98221-poppin posted that Ariela confuses them. “She has insisted on a car seat since day 1. Made Biniyam carry Avi home since they didn't have one at the time,” they added. The TLC fan observed that Avi has been in a car seat in almost every scene and “as soon as they get to Kenya, he magically doesn’t need to ride in a car seat???”
Others in the comments agreed with the OP and mentioned that what Ariela did was unsafe and that the baby was bouncing all over the place despite being positioned in her lap. “She's a ‘do as I say, not as I do’ kinda person. I can't see anyone being truly happy with her, or her being truly happy with anyone," one commenter stated. Another user said that Ariela is a hypocrite who does whatever she wants, “including staying with her ex-husband without telling Bini, but if anyone else does it….she’s the victim.”
Some viewers called out Ariela’s mother Janice, too, as she’s often the careful one when it comes to safety and security on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way. However, several commenters agreed that car seats are not common in most parts of the world. Also, now that Aviel has grown up some, Ariela may not be as panicky as she was when he was a newly born baby. In that case, one can give Ari some leeway.
