Ariela Weinberg shocked fans by revealing the difficulties she faced during Biniyam Shibre’s baby Aviel’s surgery on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 3. Princeton, N.J., native Ariela was pregnant when she made her debut on season 2 of the 90 Day Fiancé spin-off and moved to Ethiopia for her delivery. The choices Ari had to make during her stay with Bini and his family were plenty, as they fought over religion and financial responsibility. However, Ariela and Biniyam, who were engaged in the finale, welcomed baby Avi in December 2019. As the TLC couple returns to reality TV, Ariela shared that this time, Avi underwent hernia surgery, which may have created a rift between her and Bini.
Ariela and Biniyam’s adorable son Aviel, who’s now 19 months old, is adored in the 90 Day Fiancé franchise. The TOW couple’s storyline circled around Avi’s birth, and despite her parents insisting she does it in America, Ariela wanted to be close to Biniyam during the delivery. It was revealed that Biniyam had been in a similar situation before with his American ex-wife, Bria, and their baby. Baby Simon was diagnosed with gastroschisis, a defect in which the baby’s intestines grow externally outside of the body, during his ex-wife’s ultrasound. This made Bria decide to give birth in America and, in 2017, federal lawmakers allowed Biniyam to join her for his baby’s birth.
In 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 3, Ariela flies to the U.S. to get treatment for Avi’s hernia. In an interview with Us Weekly, Ari spoke of it being “a really difficult moment” for her as a mom. “I wasn’t sure what was the right decision and I wrestle with that a lot on season 3,” shared Ariela, who had to ask herself questions like, “What should I do?” and “What’s the best for my son?” When asked if deciding where Avi was having the surgery was as difficult as this, 90 Day Fiancé star Ariela’s answer was as expected. According to Ariela, it was difficult for both her and Biniyam, as the latter always has a fear of “not being involved in the decision.”
Therefore, Ariela tries to keep her MMA champ partner as involved as possible. “On the other hand, I’m stubborn and when I want something, I want something,” smiled Ari, before adding, “You’ll see that a lot.” Ariela confirmed that Avi had to be operated on for a hernia after she “noticed something that’s like a little bit odd.” At first, Ariela didn’t think anything of it. It was during a routine check-up that Ariela thought, “Oh my God, we have to make this big decision.” Ariela spoke to Bini and her parents, who are medical professionals. But it certainly “wasn’t an easy decision” for Ariela.
Back when Ariela was expecting Avi, she consulted several lawyers, hoping that Biniyam could join her in America instead of her moving to Addis Ababa. It was a difficult and long process for Biniyam, whose visa was apparently denied three times. Whether Biniyam was in the U.S. for Avi’s operation will be revealed in 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 3. But for now, Biniyam is very much in New York City, winning MMA championships with Ariela, and surprisingly, Angela Deem, for company.
