90 Day Fiancé wasn’t Angela Deem’s first reality TV stint. One of the most infamous members of the TLC show’s cast Angela’s back story is just as controversial. Although she might be married to Michael now amidst cheating scandals and trust issues, Angela has dealt with the same when it comes to daughter Scottie Deem. The 55-year-old nursing assistant has washed her dirty laundry on national TV, not once but twice with Maury. Here’s taking a look at Angela’s appearances on Maury before being a 90 Day Fiancé star.
A Hazelhurst Georgia native Angela, became reality TV royalty with Michael Ilesanmi on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days’ season. After an online romance, Angela flew down to Nigeria as friends warned her of being scammed. An ATM incident with Angela losing all her savings made her almost break up with Micheal but the “error” seemed to be a simpler issue than him calling her an “elder” on the reunion and a cheating scandal too. But now that the couple is enjoying long-distance marital bliss, Angela is back staying with her family in America. While her life with Michael has been shakier from the start, Angela’s family has gotten her involved in a fair bit of drama as well. The 90 Day Fiancé personality's appearances on The Maury Povich show have been fodder for reality TV gossip mills for a while.
In 2015, Angela appeared on Maury as a part of her daughter Scottie Deem’s explosive story. A raging paternity battle was at play as Angela insisted that her daughter’s boyfriend Terry was not the one who’s fathered the couple’s daughter Anna Sky. Scottie says Terry is the father but her mother claims another man named Chris is the father. “I caught her scr*wing Chris,” declares a livid Angela to the cameras and insists that her daughter Scottie is lying. Angela says that she knows about Scottie having a one-night stand with Chris two weeks before she got with Terry. Scottie responds by calling her mother “delusional” and asking, “Now she can tell me when I ovulate?” But the tables turn on Angie as a DNA test does declare Terry as Anna Sky’s father. Angela’s apparent popularity on his show might have made Maury consider inviting her again for more drama the next year, but it was also the fact that Scottie now had a new baby Ariah. Angela once again questioned the paternity of Scottie’s second baby Ariah and accused her own daughter of having a baby with a man who wasn’t her boyfriend. The Maury episode can be viewed here.
“Angie says she caught her daughter with another man, so she knows this is not Terry’s baby,” read the 90 Day Fiancé star’s introduction. The five-month baby is shown having kidney problems and Angela makes a shocking claim that she witnessed Scottie with her ex at her house having physical relations when the daughter claims that the man had come over to “just freshen up.” Interestingly Scottie appears to have the same kidney issue as Ariah. Angela further controversially says, “My daughter is sick, what if something happens to her? I don’t want to be stuck cleaning up her mess.” But the 90 Day Fiancé celeb's daughter defends herself by saying, “I might be sick physically, but I am not sick enough that I don’t know who the hell I slept with and who the father of my kid is!” Maury reminds Angela that she was proved wrong once before by the DNA test but she keeps insisting that Scottie slept with the man in her house. Shots of the baby at a hospital are shown repeatedly but when Terry finally appears on the screen, Angela starts yelling at him too, asking him to “shut up.” However, Maury steps in given her aggressiveness, and says, “If anybody should be apologetic, it should be you.” Terry maintains that Ariah is his baby and Maury proves that he is the father by displaying the DNA results, and Angela is seen hugging her daughter, clearly in defeat.
Scottie Deem may have fathered her kids with Chris both the times, but she did run into major legal charges later on when she was accused of child molestation in September 2018. Scottie was arrested basis a complaint made by the 15-year-old boy’s grandmother but she was released early as opposed to a 20-year sentence she’d received, from prison in May this year. 90 Day Fiancé fans might recall seeing Scottie on a few episodes with Angela as she planned a future with Michael. But although their relationship might have been sour during the Maury tapings, Scottie now appears to be “thankful every day” that the 90 Day Fiancé star is her mom as per her social media updates.
