90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days cast member Alina shared details about her much-talked-about “trip” to America via Instagram. The Russian native currently stars alongside American boyfriend Caleb Greenwood in season 5 of the popular 90 Day Fiancé spin-off. Alina met Caleb 13 years ago as teenagers when she added him on Facebook to practice her English. After reconnecting on Tinder years later, Caleb and Alina found a romantic spark in their friendship. The pair is currently exploring a relationship amid height differences and intimacy issues via the TLC show. But Alina speaking about experiencing a “proper American Christmas” recently made fans curious about her history.
The real story of when Caleb and Alina started to get “close” was revealed on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days episode 5 after Maria asked them how it happened. It all began when Caleb and Alina started joking about “mail-order brides.” Caleb asked Alina to apply to be his mail-order bride, and Alina made an entire video to convince him. Caleb found Alina “assertive and funny” and grew closer over time. For now, Caleb and Alina haven’t discussed if they’d be staying in Russia or America, which made Maria think of their relationship as a “vacation romance.” But Alina is worried about not getting answers from Caleb at the end of their trip. Since it hasn't been discussed, Alina could be expecting a proposal from Caleb or possibly looking to have a change of scenery and continue her fairytale romance in the United States.
According to Alina’s Christmas Eve Instagram Story, the last time she was in America was “wonderful.” She mentioned being an exchange student and getting an iPod for Christmas back then. In a new series of Instagram Stories, Alina wrote that she was getting questions in her DMs about her "'trip' to the U.S.” Alina revealed she was “an exchange student in 2010-11 for a year.” Alina lived in Indiana with a host family and attended school, which she now remembers as an “amazing opportunity.” She is proud that she got the scholarship that allowed her to go abroad for such a long time and “have a life-changing experience.”
The “Needy” singer Alina added that this particular program isn’t available anymore in Russia, which makes her feel sad. “It was really great cause it allowed kids from ANY family no matter what their income was to go to the U.S.” Alina mentioned. Alina reposted a photo from November 28, 2019, with the story and promised to share more throwbacks since her other pictures from the trip aren’t on Instagram. But she did end up posting a few interesting photos of a "gender bender day" from her homecoming week, which was when Alina turned into Allen. The fun-loving Alina posed next to a person dressed as her "gf" Marilyn Monroe in a picture and later shared a couple of more photos she captioned, “Well, actually, I guess Allen got around a lot…” and “Don’t u dare mess with Allen!”
In any case, Alina and Caleb would have known each other on Facebook by then. However, judging by Caleb’s genuine reaction upon seeing Alina at the Turkey airport, it was them meeting in person for the first time ever. Therefore, they couldn’t have met before that when Alina was in the United States. Even in their wildest dreams, Caleb and Alina would have never imagined that years later they would be starring on a reality show called 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days on TLC.
