Russian 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way girl Alina has her mother, Anna, worried about her trip to Turkey with Steven Johnston. The new entrant into the world of 90 Day Fiancé, Alina will be featured in episode 2 that airs Sunday on TLC. Utah-based Steven, who has a pest control job, is leaving his life in America behind to move to Russia with Alina, whom he met on a language app. The couple, however, has only spent two weeks together, so how serious Steven and Alina are about their married life is being questioned by their family and friends.
While Alina has yet to be introduced to fans, Steven has already managed to attract curiosity due to his behavior and mysterious past. Steven, who’s Mormon, apparently scared Alina when he asked her to meet him, as she thought he belonged to a cult. Alina feared that Steven would sell her organs, which made him arrange for a meeting in Prague with both of their mothers involved. Steven connected instantly with Alina, whom he dated long-distance for a year, and now wants to marry her within 90 days in Turkey and then move to Russia.
A preview clip for the next episode of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, posted by ET, shows Alina talking to the cameras about how she fell for Steven on the language exchange platform. However, the video also showcases Alina’s mother, Anna, and grandmother, Ludmila, with whom she stays in Novosibirsk. The very photogenic Alina is seen getting pictures of herself captured by a friend as she reveals that she likes makeup and body art. Alina thinks that it helps her to express herself, show off her personality and make her shine. Alina is currently a student studying the Chinese language along with Asian politics.
Initially, Alina wanted to finish college and focus on her career but then she met Steven. “Oh, he’s very handsome,” is what Alina remembered thinking to herself the first time she saw Steven, who was “very kind” and “joked around a lot.” Alina admitted to loving Steven, and she can’t wait to reunite with him, though her mom, Anna, is concerned since she’s leaving home for the first time. Anna comments that she expected Steven to come to Russia, which would have prevented Alina from taking a year off at college. “If he was here, we could get to know him,” adds Anna, who saw Steven for just one week. “He’s still a stranger to me,” Alina’s mom says, but the couple has no option but to fly to Turkey due to the pandemic.
Perhaps Alina’s mom’s intuition is what’s giving her a bad hunch about Steven and Alina’s future. The same red flags have been observed by Steven’s family and buddies, who feel that he’s not ready for marriage yet. Steven is known for living a carefree and adventurous life that involves taking impromptu decisions which have led to his short-term relationships. However, Alina’s mother’s serious concerns about him could be justified when Steven reveals the catastrophic secret that he appears to be hiding.
