Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are starring in 80 For Brady, and quite quickly after their run on Grace and Frankie ended, which could imply they are connected. 80 For Brady is inspired by a true story about a group of women, “Over 80 For Brady,” who bonded over their love of football star Tom Brady. 80 For Brady follows the women as they attempt to take their football-watching club to achieve their dream of seeing Tom Brady play at the 2017 Super Bowl LI which saw one of Brady’s many successes, and was his record-breaking seventh Super Bowl.

Fonda and Tomlin play Trish and Lou, respectively, and star alongside Sally Field as Betty, and Rita Moreno as Maura to make up the award-winning 80 For Brady main cast. 80 For Brady comes after Grace and Frankie season 7 premiered in 2022 providing the conclusion to the show. Fonda and Tomlin’s Grace and Frankie are arch-enemies who only have each other for support when their husbands reveal they are in love and are leaving their wives to be together. Grace and Frankie’s success on Netflix built over the seven seasons, and the Fonda-Tomlin comedy duo proved to be beloved by audiences and the pair returning together in 80 For Brady will likely draw priase.

No, 80 For Brady Isn't Connected To Grace & Frankie

Despite the connecting actors and the short period of time between 80 For Brady’s release after Grace and Frankie, the two are not linked. Grace and Frankie achieved 7 seasons, which is unusually long for a Netflix original, especially with Netflix cancelation policies meaning shows rarely make it past season 1. Grace and Frankie came to a natural end as the creators felt that the most important stories had been told, and it was the right time to end the series (via Vanity Fair).

Although there are some rumors that the Grace and Frankie world will continue through a spin-off show centered on Brianna (June Diane Raphael), this is not linked to Fonda and Tomlin’s roles in 80 For Brady. 80 For Brady is a completely unique story, and as it is inspired by true events, so it could never be connected to Grace and Frankie. 80 For Brady is not just focused on Fonda and Tomlin’s characters either, but Field and West Side Story's Monero’s too to form the group of four women the story is inspired by. Although Fonda and Tomlin are often a duo on screen, 80 For Brady expands their focus to a wider group.

Jane Fonda & Lily Tomlin Are Teaming Up For Another Movie After 80 For Brady

The world of Grace and Frankie may have ended, but the Fonda-Tomlin duo is not limited to 80 For Brady going forward as they are appearing in another movie released shortly after. Moving On is another comedy film that sees Fonda and Tomlin seek murderous revenge on their friend Joyce’s husband Howard (Malcolm McDowell), at Joyce’s funeral. The first official trailer for Moving On shows Fonda and Tomlin’s characters, Claire and Evelyn, attempting to enact revenge for Howard’s past wrong-doings to both them and Joyce, although it is not yet clear as to what those actually are.

Moving On was filmed before 80 For Brady, marking it as Fonda and Tomlin’s first project since Netflix's successful Grace and Frankie, but it will not release in theaters until March 17th, 2023. Moving On and 80 For Brady continue the pairing, but even Grace and Frankie was not Fonda and Tomlin’s first comedic appearance together either, with the duo first starring in 9 to 5 together in 1980 before reuniting for Grace and Frankie. With the beloved duo providing great chemistry and a string of successful comedies together, it would be unsurprising if they continue to star together after Moving On and 80 For Brady.
