The reality show has seen its share of success stories and tragedies, but what happened to My 600-LB Life’s Margaret Johnson after her time on the series came to an end? TLC reality show My 600-LB Life premiered in 2012 and has aired ten seasons to date. It’s the brainchild of reality TV producer Jonathan Nowzaradan and follows his father and weight loss expert Dr. Younan Nowzaradan (affectionately known as “Dr Now”) as he helps morbidly obese people take steps to improve their health.

Each season of My 600-LB Life chronicles a year in the life of several of Dr. Now’s patients as they attempt to bring their weight down to a healthier level through a combination of dieting and – if necessary – some surgery. Over the course of its ten years airing on TLC, the series has featured well over 100 people determined to shed some weight and its most recent series introduced a 35-year-old patient named Margaret Johnson who hailed from Baytown, Texas.

When My 600-LB Life first introduced Margaret Johnson, she weighed in at over 750 pounds and struggled to walk unaided. Margaret’s episode detailed her weight-related struggles – including being hospitalized after experiencing breathing problems – and how her food addiction issues spawned from verbal abuse she endured at the hands of her father as a child. After she was put on a strict nutrition plan by Dr. Nowzaradan, she succeeded in losing enough weight – over 150 pounds – to qualify for gastric bypass surgery.

My 600 LB Life Margaret Johnson

Margaret’s episode aired in early January 2022 and she’s yet to be featured on the show’s spin-off series My 600-LB Life: Where Are They Now? which offers updates on how past cast members have fared since appearing on the TLC reality series. Consequently, not much is known about what happened to Margaret after her My 600-LB Life episode aired but considering the lack of updates – and the fact she seemed determined to continue her weight loss journey – it’s safe to assume she’s doing well.

Sadly, not everyone who’s appeared on the show has fared so well. In fact, several past My 600-LB Life cast members have died since their episodes aired including season 5’s James King who succumbed to kidney failure in 2020 and season 6’s Rob Buchel, who suffered a fatal heart attack in 2017. So, here’s hoping Margaret Johnson is one of its success stories and that My 600-LB Life gives reality TV fans an update on her life in the not-too-distant future.
