Seth Larney's upcoming sci-fi film, 2067, features dystopian horror elements alongside a conversation on the global climate crisis. For the past year, its release date has changed several times but it may be arriving in the very near future. Here is everything we know so far about the upcoming science-fiction horror film, 2067.

Recently, horror depicting dystopian universes and the onset of climate change have increased in popularity. For instance, Jeff Brown's The Beach House (2019) took the distinct approach to the conversation over the irreversible damage humanity has done to the Earth by centering it on the changes that are currently happening to the ocean's ecosystem. When the genre features real-life horrors, they are often jarring and encourage the audience to question how they are participating in the fight against the planet's decay. Larney's film could take this route due to the rise in popularity with "eco-horror", but the science-fiction aspects may also bring an all new set of dystopian fears to the genre.

2067's plot is a relatively well-kept secret with only brief glimpses available for interested viewers to find scattered across the internet. In fact, a trailer has not yet released which would assist in clarifying any confusion about what the film is about, when it will release, and where viewers may be able to find it. Given this, here is everything that we know so far about the upcoming sci-fi horror film2067.

2067 Release Date

2067

As of this writing, there is no set release date for 2067. The film was first announced back in 2019, but a date was never set for its release. This is partially due to the fact that the original production company abandoned the project, and Larney was forced to look for a new studio to back 2067's release. Currently, XYZ Films is set to distribute it worldwide. In April of 2020, Deadline announced that the filmmaker intended to market the film over several weeks in the spring, but it does not appear as though that plan ever came to fruition. If 2067 gets a release date, it's likely it will be for late 2020 or early 2021 due to the fact that the movie is, presumably, complete.

2067 Cast & Plot Details

2067

2067 stars Kodi Smit-McPhee of X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) and Ryan Kwanten of the popular HBO vampire series, True BloodSmit-McPhee portrays Ethan Whyte, a man whose wife is sick and shows very little signs of being able to survive. In this dystopian universe, the air has grown toxic and replaced with artificial oxygen. Ethan travels in time in order to find some way to help his wife. Along the way, Jude Mathers (Kwanten) protects the time traveler. The primary basis of the sci-fi horror film is that these two men travel to the future in to find a way to cure and/or help Ethan's ill wife.

The entirety of 2067 is centered around deforestation and the lack of natural resources available on Earth that led to the need of artificial oxygen. Without trees, the process of making breathable air is more-or-less nonexistent. While this is a journey to save one life, if the duo are successful, they could save hundreds of thousands of lives, depending on how many survivors there are in the dystopian world depicted in 2067.
