It's looking like 2022 is going to be a big year for the gaming industry, and the excitement doesn't stop there because rumors about other game releases and news are even bigger. Geoff Keighley announced a lot of new game reveals at Game Awards 2021, including the surprise Wonder Woman game, but there were some titles not mentioned that many gamers were hoping to hear about. However, waiting a little bit longer is worth it because the top rumors going into 2022 are some of the best franchises ever developed.

Although this past year didn't have as many big game releases as other years, it still had a few big names, including Halo Infinite, Amazon's New WorldDeathloopThe Medium, and Resident Evil Village. This coming year is stacked with an impressive list of titles set to launch: Elden Ring, God of War Ragnarök, and Zelda: Breath of The Wild 2 are a few of the most anticipated games of 2022. With the new year, gamers are gearing up and excited for what's to come. Not only are the 2022 game releases looking good, but speculative rumors are bolstering a lot of excitement too. It's safe to say many surprises are on the horizon and in the making that gamers will want to watch closely.

Three prominent titles that could start production in 2022 (and even receive teasers): Tomb RaiderAssassin's CreedJedi Fallen Order 2. There are also some games, including two potential PC ports, that could receive release dates very soon: Ghost of TsushimaBloodborne, and Wonder Woman. Many major video games are releasing in 2022, and it could be because the pandemic has pushed a lot of games back toward a relatively close launch date; nevertheless, it's shaping up to be an exciting year for gaming.

Rumored AAA Titles Being Developed In 2022

Tomb Raider 2022 New Video Game Announcement

Crystal Dynamics's successful reboot of the Tomb Raider video game series means that there's more to come, and the dev team has made that apparent. Initially, beginning in 2013, the series set out to explore Lara Croft's history prior to her professional dungeon-delving career. The most recent game, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, was released in 2018, which means 2022 will be the fifth year running without another release in the series. Crystal Dynamics celebrated 2021 by acknowledging its 25 year anniversary of Tomb Raider and that Nintendo Switch versions were coming in 2022. However, rumors have grown that that studio will begin developing the next game soon because Crystal Dynamics were hiring a Lighting Artist for a Tomb Raider project in 2021. The studio also made an announcement last year that the next game will "unify" the reboot series with the classic games, signifying the next game in the series is in the works or at least being planned out.

Assassin's Creed is another AAA series that could have a new title teased in 2022. About every two years, Ubisoft launches a new game in the series. Valhalla will approach that two-year mark in November of 2022, so it's reasonable that teasers for the next game will get announced. Since the Assassin's Creed series focuses on history - and now mythology in the last three games - it's up in the air where the next game will take place, but most location rumors for the next Assassin's Creed game are somewhere in Asia. The live-service game, allegedly titled Assassin's Creed Infinity, is speculated as having a 2022 release date. It's possible this is where the series is headed next, or it could just be a spin-off. Either way, rumors point toward a release date (and official title reveal) for the new year.

On November 15, 2019, Jedi Fallen Order was released, scoring impressive reviews. Creating a successful Star Wars game can be difficult to do because fans of the universe are invested in the lore and want to see all the aspects be accurate to George Lucas' initial creation and vision. However, Respawn Entertainment was able to achieve success with Jedi Fallen Order, and many people are still playing it and buying the game. Although no official reveal has been made, it's likely 2022 will be the year of the next announcement, and rumors have broken because Respawn has been hiring new game developers and environment designers. Hopefully, sooner than later the gaming community will see Jedi: Fallen Order 2 officially announced, and the evidence points toward the next game in development.

Rumored Game Release Dates To Be Announced In 2022 (Including Ports)

God of War on PC May Support Bloodborne PC Rumors

Two PlayStation exclusives - Ghost of Tsushima and Bloodborne  - are rumored to be ported to PC in early 2022. Ghost of Tsushima was a 2020 release by Sucker Punch Productions, and it quickly gained in popularity as it offered a beautiful world and engulfing story. Recently, Nvidia Gefore leaks indicate that the game could be coming to PC as early as February of this year. Much like God of War, this is a much-wanted port game. Bloodborne (2015) is another PlayStation exclusive that is looking more likely it'll get a PC port in 2022, via Geforce leak speculation. However, the rumors for Bloodborne seem tenable, given information from the same source initially given for God of War's Steam port, and the same could be said for Ghost of Tsushima. Other than new game announcements, 2022 could be a big year for classic exclusives being made available on other platforms, which is almost equally as good.

Additional rumors for remakes include a PS5-exclusive JRPG from Square Enix, which fans have speculated is a Chrono Cross remaster or remake. Rumors of a Silent Hill remake or reboot have likewise been circulating online for a while, and 2022 could be the year that these rumors are officially confirmed. Wonder Woman is looking like it'll release sooner than expected, probably sometime in late 2022 or early 2023. Release date rumors have sparked because of leaked documents in Nvidia's Geforce's system. A Monolith project titled "Legacy" dated for November 2022 is showing, and the studio isn't working on any other projects currently.

Earlier, many thought this was the next Middle-earth game, but it's now looking more likely, given the 2021 announcement, that it's for Wonder Woman. With all the rumors circulating in the gaming community, it looks like 2022 could be the best video game year in over a decade.
