The time has come for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to reveal the winners in film and television for the 2020 Golden Globes awards ceremony. In keeping with tradition, the Golden Globes will be the first major pop culture awards show of the new year and serve as a precusor to the Oscars (which, for 2020, will take place in early February). The 77th Golden Globes overall have already proven controversial, between returning host Ricky Gervais' recent transphobic jokes and the HFPA's failure to nominate a single female filmmaker in the Best Director category. It's also a landmark event for Netflix, with the streaming service dominating when it comes to combined movie and TV nominations.

Netflix Originals The Irishman, Dolemite Is My Name, Marriage Story, and The Two Popes all secured major nods from the HFPA, as did the box office champion Joker and late-year awards season contender 1917. Meanwhile, on the TV side, Netflix's The Crown and The Kominsky Method faced off with Fleabag, Succession, and newcomers like The Morning Show. Now, the actual winners of this year's Golden Globes are being unveiled.

HBO's Succession and Chernobyl dominated alongside Amazon's Fleabag on the televison side of things, taking home the top prizes in their respective categories while also securing victories for their performances. Meanwhile, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and 1917 snagged the biggest awards of the night among this year's movie nominees, with Quentin Tarantino and Sam Mendes additionally winning for their writing and directing. They weren't the only films to take home multiple awards either, with Rocketman emerging victorious in both Original Song and Actor for a Musical or Comedy, and Joker locking down the trophies for Best Score and Joaquin Phoenix's turn as the Clown Prince of Crime in Lead Actor (Drama).
