Writer/director Damien Chazelle's musical La La Land won a record number of prizes earlier this month at the 2017 Golden Globes ceremony, further cementing its status as a serious contender at this year's Oscars show too. The race to the 2017 Oscars is far from over, however, what with Barry Jenkins' drama Moonlight having been recognized as the best of 2016 by the National Society of Film Critics around the same time that La La Land was winning big at the Golden Globes. In fact, a number of questions have been hanging in the balance, waiting for a concrete answer (such as, whether or not Deadpool is going to be among those films competing for the Academy gold), ahead of this year's Oscar nominations being officially revealed.

The official nominees for this year's 89th Academy Awards ceremony have been unveiled, per tradition, by Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs, about a month ahead of the actual Oscar ceremony. Among the other members of this year's Oscar nominations announcements "team" were two people who won Academy Awards in 2016 - Brie Larson (who won for her performance in Room) and Emmanuel Lubezki (who won his third Oscar for his cinematography on The Revenant) - as well as fellow Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson, Award Award-nominated filmmakers Jason Reitman (Up in the Air) and Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth) and Oscar-nominated actor Ken Watanabe (Inception), among others.

Read on for the full list of this year's Oscar nominations - and find out who/what's in the running (and who/what is not in the running) at this year's Academy Awards event!
