Paramount+ has officially revealed the premier date for the upcoming Yellowstone prequel series, 1923. Debuting in 2018, Yellowstone is the hit neo-Western drama series from Paramount+ that has already sparked its own universe of spin-offs in its four season run, with season five set to premier on November 13. The Western series sees Kevin Costner take on the role of John Dutton, who is the patriarch of the largest ranch in Montana, the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, which has been in his family for generations.

Some earlier generations of the Duttons were first explored in the prequel series, 1883. The first Yellowstone spinoff series starred Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as the first Duttons and highlighted how their family settled the land that would eventually become the famed Yellowstone Ranch. The upcoming Yellowstone prequel, 1923, will star Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as Jacob and Cara Dutton, or the next generation of Duttons. It was previously revealed that 1923 would be premiering on Paramount+ sometime in December, with no word on when, until now.

What To Expect From 1923

1923 will focus on a Dutton generation facing hardships during a time that saw a historical drought, a deadly pandemic, the Great Depression, as well as the economic complications of Prohibition. Outside of the historical threats of the Roaring Twenties, the upcoming limited series will see a villain with Timothy Dalton’s Donald Whitfield, who is a wealthy, powerful, and assured sociopath who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Considering the historical economic crisis that the Duttons find themselves in, and the fact that Dalton’s character is already being portrayed as the series’ villain shows that Dalton’s Whitfield is a force to be reckoned with.

Besides Ford’s Jacob and Mirren’s Cara, 1923 will also see John Dutton Sr. (James Badge Dale), who is the son of Tim McGraw’s James Dutton from the limited series 1883, his wife, Emma Dutton (Marley Shelton) and their son Jack Dutton (Darren Mann). The upcoming limited series’ known ties to its predecessors already has 1923 set to be a neo-Western hit that genre fans and television aficionados won’t want to miss. 1923 will debut on Paramount+ on December 18.
