Netflix's horror-mystery series 1899 features a diverse ensemble cast amidst its passengers on a mysterious 19th-century ocean voyage. The ambitious series comes from Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, who previously created German-language time-travel Netflix hit Dark. The series features protagonists of many nationalities with over a half-dozen spoken languages, making for a unique international cast.
1899's central characters are a group of European migrants traveling from London to New York on the ship Kereberos. They eventually find themselves getting off course when they come to the rescue of the lost ship Prometheus. What they find on board sends the ship on a strange odyssey, and not all the characters make it out. Here are the actors behind the characters in 1899.
Emily Beecham as Maura Franklin
Maura Franklin is one of the main viewpoint characters of 1899. She is a British neurologist and one of the first female doctors in the UK, traveling to New York after receiving a message from her brother. Beecham is an English actress who has previously received the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for her performance in Little Joe. She has also previously appeared in Hail, Ceasar! and cult action series Into the Badlands.
Aneurin Barnard as Daniel Solace
Daniel is one of the most mysterious figures on board the Kereberos, a man who takes an interest in Maura. Barnard is a Welsh actor who has previously appeared as Gibson in Dunkirk and Doctor Holford in Peaky Blinders, among other roles.
Andreas Pietschmann as Eyk Larsen
Eyk is the captain of the Kereberos, who makes the unusual decision to take a detour in an attempt to find the Prometheus. Pietschmann is a German actor who made a big impression as The Stranger in Dark, and is also known in Germany for narrating audiobooks.
Miguel Bernardeau as Ángel
Ángel is a rich Spanish man traveling on the Kereberos who take interest in a mysterious scarred young man. Bernardeau is a Spanish actor best known for playing Guzman in the hit Netflix series Elite. He has also been tabbed for the upcoming Amazon Zorro revival.
Isabella Wei as Ling Yi
Ling Yi is a mysterious Chinese young woman who is disguising herself as Japanese through elaborate makeup as part of an unknown ruse. Wei is a Hong Kong actress whose only previous on-screen role was in the short film Our 4C - Able World.
Mathilde Olivier as Clémence
An aristocratic young woman from Paris, Clémence finds herself aboard the Kereberos having newly begun a miserable arranged marriage. She is played by Mathilde Ollivier, a French stage and screen actress who has also appeared in Hollywood movies such as J. J. Abrams' horror movie Overlord and Boss Level.
Yann Gael as Jérôme
Jérôme is a stowaway from France who ends up as a part of the ship's below-decks crew. Gael is a French-Cameroonian actor who previously appeared in Netflix as the lead of Sakho & Mangane, the streamer's first French-language African series, and has also appeared in drama films The French Dream and Saloum.
Maciej Musial as Olek
Olek is a Polish stoker working below decks on the Kereberos, who provides a window into the working class that keeps the ship running. He also becomes drawn to Ling Yi as 1899's story unfolds. Musial is a second-generation Polish actor who has also appeared in Netflix series The Witcher and 1983 (no relation).

José Pimentão as Ramiro -- Ramiro is a man traveling with Angel, posing as a priest. Pimentão is a Brazilian actor who has previously appeared in the Portugese drama film Al Berto and the soap opera Valor da Vida.
Jonas Bloquet as Lucien -- Clémence's new husband is Lucien, an uncaring man who doesn't like the arrangement any more than she does. Bloquet is a Belgian actor whose filmography includes the Paul Verhoeven thriller Elle and American horror movie The Nun.
Gabby Wong as Yuk Je -- Yuk Je is a Chinese woman who accompanies Ling Yi on the journey, helping her to maintain the facade. Wong previously had a small part in Rogue One as Gold Nine, and has also acted for the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Rosalie Craig as Virginia Wilson -- Virginia is a British socialite on board the Kereberos who is secretly involved with Ling Yi and Yuk Je. Craig is a British actress who has spent most of her career in London's West End, as well as appearing on television shows such as Midsomer Murders and The Queen's Gambit.
Lucas Lynggard Tønnesen as Krester -- Krester is a Danish boy who bears a mysterious scar across his face. Having got this start in Denmark's children's circus, Tønnesen also played Rasmus on Netflix series The Rain.
Clara Rosager as Tove -- Krester's sister, Tove is a young woman who is pregnant and traveling with her Danish family. Born in Denmark, Rosager recently appeared in surprise Netflix success Morbius as Jean.
Fflyn Edwards as "The Boy" -- Edwards portrays a mysterious mute child found on board an abandoned ship. The child actor has previously had roles in Save the Cinema and The Snow Spider.
Anton Lesser as Henry Singleton -- Singleton is Maura's father a rich businessman. While the role is fairly minor, Lesser is one of the most experienced actors in 1899's cast, having previously portrayed Qyburn in Game of Thrones and Harold Macmillan in The Crown, among others.
