Paramount+ unveils the first 1883 trailer giving fans the official first look at the Yellowstone prequel series streaming later this year. Created by Oscar nominee Taylor Sheridan, the next chapter in the Western TV franchise shifts the focus of the story back to the titular year as the Dutton family journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. 1883 will explore a retelling of Western expansion and the titular family's struggle to flee poverty and find a richer future in America's promised land, Montana.

The cast of 1883 will be led by The Blind Side's Tim McGraw as Dutton patriarch James alongside his real life wife Faith Hill as Dutton matriarch Margaret, Oscar nominee Sam Elliott, Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton, Young Sheldon alum Isabel May, Designated Survivor's LaMonica Garrett and Stranger Things' James Landry Hébert. Development on the prequel series was first announced this past February as Sheridan, co-creator of the mothership Yellowstone series, inked a five-year deal with ViacomCBS and MTV Entertainment Group. After revealing 1883 would arrive on Paramount+ this December, the streaming platform has exciting news for Yellowstone fans.

With just over a month remaining until the show's arrival, Paramount+ has debuted the first 1883 trailer. The video offers an official first look at the Yellowstone prequel series and its ensemble cast, including McGraw as Dutton ancestor James. See the first trailer below:

The 1883 trailer should come as an exciting arrival for Yellowstone fans, namely on the heels of the explosive season 4 premiere of the mothership series. The video displays some pretty impressive production design for its Old West setting as well as a glimpse at the performances delivered by its central cast. While it's unclear what the dynamic will be between Billy Bob Thornton's Marshall Jim Courtright and the rest of the cast, the Goliath star certainly seems to bring a commanding and gun-wielding presence to the character.

The impending arrival of 1883 comes as the mothership Yellowstone series continues to dominate cable TV. Ratings for the Kevin Costner-led neo-Western drama have steadily risen with each new season and critical reception has become far more favorable in comparison to the generally mixed reviewed debut outing, leading to the ordering of the prequel spin-off as well as the still-in-development 6666 set in the present day on the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas. Audiences can catch up on the first three seasons of Yellowstone on Peacock now and catch new episodes airing Sundays on Paramount Network, while 1883 will hit Paramount+ exclusively on December 19.
