Paramount has announced the complete cast list for the highly anticipated Yellowstone prequel, 1883. The first of two planned Yellowstone spin-off series from Taylor Sheridan will cover the origins of the Dutton family of the flagship series and their arrival in the Old West. Yellowstone season 4 just premiered on the back of critical acclaim and huge viewing figures for Paramount, so it is no surprise that a spin-off of Yellowstone has been commissioned.

Starring Kevin Costner, Yellowstone has garnered renewed interest in a genre that has historically drawn in huge audiences ever-hungry for tales of intrepid adventures in the American West. The success of the original series has seemingly emboldened Paramount to give showrunner Taylor Sheridan carte-blanche to create new shows to fill out the Yellowstone universe, with the first installment being 1883.

1883 Cast

1883 will depict the lives of the early Dutton family as they migrate westward in search of a new home in the untamed territories of Montana, claiming the landscape of their descendant's vast ranch. A tale of Westen expansion in the late 19th century, the show will focus on the trials and tribulations endured by the homesteaders in their bid to escape the poverty of their homeland, revealing the path that the settlers forged, which led to their successors' development in Yellowstone.

The premiere of Yellowstone season 4 provided the audience a glimpse of what to expect from 1883 in a flashback scene showing Tim Mcgraw as James Dutton, patriarch of the Dutton family and the man who would buy the ranch that would spawn Yellowstone. With this scene and the accompanying teaser trailer, excitement has steadily grown for the series premiere on Paramount+. On December 19, when 1883 premieres, it has the potential to expand on the foundations laid by Yellowstone, bringing in that show's avid fanbase and quite possibly spawning another hit series.
