13 Reasons Why Season 3 Final Trailer Teases Who Killed Bryce Walker

Dylan Minnette in 13 Reasons Why Season 3

The final trailer for season 3 of 13 Reasons Why asks the question that’s on every character’s mind: Who killed Bryce Walker and why? The YA series caused quite a stir in its first season, as it was presumably a big hit for Netflix (though without seeing any actual ratings numbers, that too is a solid mystery), but it also earned plenty of scrutiny for its subject matter surrounding sexual assault and, finally, its graphic depiction of suicide. That depiction has continued to be news, as the streamer recently edited the scene in question from the first season.

Based on the teen-centric novel of the same name by Jay Asher, 13 Reasons Why explores the aftermath of the suicide of Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford), who left behind 13 audio tapes detailing the events that led her to the decision to take her own life. The series’ approach to the source material was to treat each tape as a story in and of itself, turning the implications therein into an hour-long drama. The results was an overlong drama that has been criticized for glamorizing suicide.

Despite being a relatively closed-ended narrative, the series is about to enter into its third season, with a new mystery to be uncovered by Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) and his fellow classmates. This time, it’s the murder of Hannah’s alleged rapist, Bryce Walker (Justin Prentice), and as the final trailer for season 3 suggests, everyone is a suspect. Check out the final trailer for 13 Reasons Why season 3 below:

“Who killed Bryce Walker? Everyone has their reasons... The secrets at Liberty High run deep, and in the aftermath of the Homecoming game all of the friends have something to hide. As the mystery of his death engulfs the town, there are numerous suspects in focus. But were any of them truly capable of murder? And who is the new girl? Police are determined to get to the truth, but with a web of secrets and lies this tangled, will anyone be found guilty?”

As far as high schools with an inordinate amount of drama go, 13 Reasons’ Liberty High could go toe-to-toe with Riverdale or even Netflix’s own Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. But while both of those series admit to taking place in a heightened, camp-fueled world, this drama purports to be a little more grounded. From the look of what’s in store for season 3, it sure seems like that’s anything but the case.
