13 Reasons Why Season 2 Trailer: Clay's Looking for Justice

The new 13 Reasons Why season 2 trailer suggests troubling times ahead for the students of Liberty High. Following on from the huge success of season one, 13 Reasons Why returns to Netflix on May 18th, and season 2 looks to be just as dark and troubling, albeit in a different kind of way.

The focus of season 2 won't be Hannah Baker's suicide, but rather the aftermath. Most notably, it will follow Jessica's story as a survivor of sexual assault, and the ongoing court case that Hannah's parents have brought against the school.

Photographs will be the main focus of 13 Reasons Why season 2, replacing the cassette tapes that Hannah used to tell her story in season 1. The marketing campaign for season 2 has focused on Polaroids, but we know that Tyler is a keen photographer, and this latest trailer released by Netflix shows some photos having been blown up and pasted around the school. It also seems that nearly all of the characters that featured in season 1, are being targeted in one way or another during season 2.

Bryce's vile past as a rapist seems to be catching up to him, while Jessica is sadly being called a slut, something that victims of sexual assault have to deal with all too often. Tyler is being physically bullied, Marcus is worried about something, and Tony is being targeted in some way, something we've already seen in 13 Reasons Why photos. The school counselor, Mr. Porter, is also feeling the strain. During 13 Reasons Why season 1, his neglect of Hannah was made apparent. Now, with the whole thing being played out in court, it looks as though he's having to face the music, and the stress of that seems to be manifesting itself in sudden outbursts - we see him pinning Bryce up against a wall in once scene and crying in another.

It's Clay who's the focus of the trailer though. Despite the Bakers going through court proceedings, he still doesn't feel as though there's any justice for Hannah, and he's willing to go to extreme lengths to make sure that happens. Given the recent school shootings in the U.S., and Tyler's backpack full of guns at the end of season 1, it's a surprise to see 13 Reasons Why focusing on Clay mastering the art of firing a gun, seemingly so he can use it against someone. Whether thoughts of Hannah deter him from this or not, remains to be seen. With so much threat swirling around, the one question that still needs to be answered is who is posting all these photos, and why? We'll find out very soon when 13 Reasons Why season 2 arrives.
