The popular teen drama 13 Reasons Why finally came to a close after four seasons. With so many tragic deaths, high school issues, and troubling relationships, these characters were all intriguing and dynamic. Fans got to see many over the course of the show, and some disappeared while other ones were newly introduced.

By the end of the series, many fans were torn about what happened to all of their favorite (and least favorite) characters. Of course, it's time to settle it once and for all. Here are 5 characters that got a fitting ending, and 5 that definitely deserved better.

Fitting: Tyler Down

This character went through a lot of trauma during the course of the series. Of course, he also grew the most. From being the creepy guy on Hannah's tapes to the selfless and happy photographer, Tyler made a lot of progress.

Of course, fans might be a little undecided about his flourishing relationship with Estela, but it is definitely not up for debate that Tyler received a happy and fitting ending that he totally deserved.

Deserved Better: Montogomery De La Cruz

While everything to do with this character is still up for debate between fans, there is definitely no arguing that no person (especially someone so young) deserves to lose their life in jail.

Monty wasn't the best person, but he also had a devastating background full of abuse and grief. He just wanted to be himself, and him being "guilty" of murder and not having the chance to redeem himself definitely hit a lot of fans hard.

Fitting: Tony Padilla

Tony and Clay were the center of everything that happened. From being in trouble with the law to losing his family, this character had to be incredibly independent and resilient. He had a lot to offer, and him getting a scholarship for fighting at a school is definitely amazing.

He and Caleb were better than ever, he got to 'keep' the shop, and he gets the chance at a better future. All things considered, he got a great ending, and it was also pretty fitting.

Deserved Better: Zach Dempsey

Zach's entire character arc deserved better in the final season. With his attitude considered, his ending was actually pretty fitting - and honestly, he definitely lucked out by being in the coach's good graces.

However, while the ending may have made sense with the events of the fourth season, all fans could agree that Zach deserved better than the last ten episodes. He had a lot to offer, and his pitiful state was hard to watch.

Fitting: Alex Standall

Alex was probably one of everyone's favorite characters. From almost losing his life to becoming happy to live (and dating the quarterback), Alex never took a turn for the worst. He was always a kind and selfless person.

Of course, that just means he deserved a fulfilling ending. He got it, with Charlie by his side and a new sense of love for life. He always deserved better, and fans were dying to see him happy.

Deserved Better: Winston Williams

Fans probably hated this character from the beginning, but his ending was still pretty tragic. All he wanted was justice and love, and he didn't really get either of those things. Sure, his moment with Alex was touching, but Winston didn't really gain anything from it.

He didn't get Alex, he lost Monty, and he didn't even get to speak the truth. Obviously fans were happy he dropped the whole thing, but as a character, his ending was quite sad. Hopefully Ryan Shaver will make him happy again.

Fitting: Jessica Davis

While it's totally tragic that Jessica lost the love of her life, it's almost fitting in a beautifully sad way. Her internal struggle with Bryce was finally resolved as the gang buried Hannah's tapes, and it almost seems poetic the way that Justin was buried alongside it, too.

She definitely has a fractured heart, but fans know that Jessica will go to school and find another man to make her just as happy. While it was rocky, her ending was more than fitting.

Deserved Better: Lainie & Matt Jensen

Everyone definitely felt heartbroken over the fact that Clay lost his brother, but there is definitely something to say about Lainie and Matt. These two opened their home and their hearts to Justin, just to be helpless regarding his death.

There's nothing worse than a parent losing a child, and this was probably one of the worst ways for that to happen. These parents were rock stars, and they definitely deserved a happier ending.

Fitting: Clay Jensen

Clay was the main character of the series, and everything kind of happened because of him. Still, fans can probably agree that he didn't really deserve better than he got. In fact, he kind of lucked out.

He lost his best friend and brother, but he also got into school and made peace with himself. Plus, he met a girl that might be the perfect one for him. All things considered, his ending was the best he could have gotten.

Deserved Better: Justin Foley

This is one thing that all fans can definitely agree on. Whether or not viewers thought it absurd or a tragically perfect ending, Justin as a character still certainly didn't deserve to die. He had the best character arc on the show, and him not being able to fulfill his potential is more than devastating.

It was a full-circle for the rest of the characters, but for all fans of Justin Foley, this hit definitely made them think he deserved way better. This lovable character will always be missed.
