Season 2 of Netflix's 13 Reasons Why will feature flashbacks, but it won't show much more of the relationship between Hannah (Katherine Langford) and Clay (Dylan Minnette). The show is based on the 2007 young adult novel by Jay Asher which tells the story of Hannah's suicide and the events that led to it. Hannah leaves behind 13 tapes, each one about a different classmate who somehow contributed to her death.

The first season of 13 Reasons Why sparked widespread conversations about how it honestly and sometimes graphically depicted delicate subjects such as rape, suicide, and bullying. Some critics thought the show glorified these topics, while others praised the show for its openness to discuss things real teenagers deal with everyday. Despite wrapping up Hannah's tapes and the story told in the book, 13 Reasons Why is back for a second season. This time the show will tell the story of the other kids involved in her suicide as well as what happens next.

Minnette tells Seventeen that despite the tapes being over there will be plenty of flashbacks of Hannah in season 2.

"It would have been weird to end Hannah’s story in season one because we only heard very small tidbits of her life told by her. There’s a whole life that Hannah had, and there’s more we can learn about her. Overall, learning more about her is more important to the entire narrative."

It seems that not all of these flashbacks will be shown from Clay's perspective (a person who cared about her), so it will be interesting to see what new things are revealed about her character and how that shapes how we think about what happens to her. Minnette also says that the story of Hannah and Clay's relationship was told in season 1 and there isn't much more to tell.

"We potentially could see more flashbacks with Clay and Hannah, but what I will say is that I think we learn pretty much almost everything we needed to know about what Clay and Hannah’s relationship was [in season one]. I think that’s pretty clear."

As for Clay, Minnette says, "The impact of Hannah and the tapes on Clay’s life will never ever go away no matter how hard he tries." He will still be recovering from the events of the first season and the role he played while also trying to move forward with his new friends Tony (Christian Navarro) and Skye (Sosie Bacon). Minnette also teased a potential romance for Clay.

"I can’t say too much, but Skye is still around and in the picture and there’s a chance that her and Clay could be friends or more. That’s something you’ll learn pretty quickly when the season starts."

13 Reasons Why season 1 is currently available to stream on Netflix. Season 2 does not yet have a release date.
