Jennifer Garner recently told some behind-the-scenes anecdotes from some of her work, including the popular romcom 13 Going On 30. Released in 2004, 13 Going on 30 starred Garner and Mark Ruffalo, along with well-known actors such as Judy Greer and Andy Serkis.

13 Going On 30 tells the story of a newly 13-year-old girl who, after a humiliating moment, wishes she was 30 and, by some sort of unexplainable magic, gets her wish, leaving her to navigate life and love as an adult. Known for its nostalgic aesthetics, quirky humor, and empowering themes, 13 Going On 30 became a quick success and a staple of American pop culture—even pop star Ariana Grande paid homage to the film in the music video to her hit song “thank u, next.” While the film is known for holding up to its “thirty, flirty, and thriving” mantra (with all the frills), Mark Ruffalo keeps the film relatable by playing the straight man love interest.

In a recent Instagram post by The Skimm doing promo for her newest film Yes Day, Jennifer Garner dished about Mark Ruffalo’s experience filming 13 Going On 30. In the short clip, Garner mentions that although the iconic dance scene to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” was her favorite moment, the same cannot be said for her co-star. Garner detailed Ruffalo’s experience during rehearsals, admitting that he was outmatched by his co-stars who had danced in their youth.

“Our first rehearsal, I think it was like Mark, Judy, and me, and Judy and I were both dancers growing up, and poor Mark didn’t know that. And he came in and he hated the rehearsal process so much he almost dropped out of the movie.”

Garner’s film Yes Day released on Netflix last week and is currently the number one streamed title on Netflix in the U.S. The film also stars Édgar Ramírez and Jenna Ortega. Certainly, Garner and Ruffalo have been keeping busy since they first had to channel their inner 13-year-old selves. Garner has starred in many films including Love, Simon and Dallas Buyers Club, which earned her a SAG nomination. Ruffalo, on the other hand, has been busy as the Hulk in the world of the MCU, among other roles. Additionally, Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer Garner will team up as an on-screen couple once again for the much-anticipated Netflix film The Adam Project which also stars Ryan Reynolds and Zoe Saldana. The Adam Project will be directed by Shawn Levy who is perhaps most known for his work on Stranger Things and as a producer for many more popular projects such as Arrival and The Spectacular Now

Garner has spoken publicly about how great it is to work with Ruffalo and how they have a longstanding connection. Jennifer Garner even posted a photo to social media of their sweet reunion on set with a 13 Going On 30 reference in the caption. Thankfully, Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo will be able to rekindle that onscreen connection for fans in the near future. Fans of 13 Going On 30 are sure to be in for a treat with The Adam Project. It’s always a fan’s dream to see a heartwarming reunion
