Amy and Tammy Slaton are the stars of 1000-Lb Sisters, but the pair's surgeon Dr. Charles Procter has garnered an impressively large fanbase in the years since his reality TV debut. Charles became a prominent figure on 1000-Lb Sisters as he attempted to help Amy and Tammy on their weight loss journeys for bariatric surgery, but the surgeon has plenty going on for him outside of Amy and Tammy's lives. From his work across several reality shows to his personal life before starring on TV, here's everything there is to know about Dr. Procter.

The chief conflict on 1000-Lb Sisters is Tammy and Amy's ambitious weight loss goals. The Slaton sisters' weight puts them at risk of dire health complications and even death, so it has been imperative for Tammy and Amy to get their weight on track. Amy and Tammy attempted to lose enough weight to qualify for bariatric surgery, an operation that alters digestive systems to accelerate weight loss. Amy and Tammy had the help of Dr. Procter to get them through the process of qualifying for bariatric surgery. Although some viewers think he's too lenient with Tammy due to the insignificant progress she has made, most 1000-Lb Sisters fans embrace Dr. Procter for his charm and candid conversations with Tammy and Amy.

Dr. Procter is a surgeon at Betline Health, a weight loss solutions facility. According to Betline's website, Dr. Procter's journey to becoming a surgeon isn't a typical one. Even though his father was a bariatric surgeon as well, Dr. Procter wasn't always sure he wanted to work in operating rooms. Initially, Dr. Procter was turned off by the idea of becoming a surgeon as he witnessed his father's hectic schedule. Instead of pursuing medicine, Dr. Procter studied pre-law at Miami University. By 1995, however, Dr. Procter's inclination toward working in medicine kicked in and he enrolled in a pre-med program at the University of Georgia. Betline shared that Dr. Procter was set on becoming a trauma surgeon, but "his father was responsible for his change in direction." Ultimately, the 1000-Lb Sisters doctor was convinced to carry on his father's legacy and become a bariatric surgeon.

Dr. Procter on 1000-Lb Sisters

Dr. Procter's father isn't the only prominent family member in his life. On Dr. Procter's Instagram, the surgeon regularly shares photos with his wife and three sons. Surprisingly, 1000-Lb Sisters wasn't Dr. Procter's first venture into the world of reality television. First, Dr. Procter starred on TLC's Family By The Ton, a show about families that are all in need of weight-loss surgeries. After the show ended in 2018, Dr. Procter made his way over to help Amy and Tammy's bariatric surgery dreams come true. While the doctor was successful in aiding Amy's operation, Dr. Procter came to the conclusion that Tammy should see another physician who lives closer to her, as he is based in Atlanta. Dr. Procter's days on television haven't ended with Tammy Slaton's health issues, however. Currently, the surgeon stars on Too Large, another show that focuses on Dr. Procter helping people get bariatric surgery.

Some 1000-Lb Sisters fans might not think that Dr. Procter was hard enough on Tammy, but the surgeon's experiences on and off of reality TV prove he has a knack for helping his patients. Hopefully, Amy and Tammy will continue to follow Dr. Procter's advice on 1000-Lb Sisters season 3.
