Tammy Slaton and her sister Amy Slaton joined 1000-lb Sisters to improve their health, and fans might not know the extent of Tammy's various health issues. Tammy has traveled a rocky road to weight loss, including false death rumors and a frustrating lack of progress. However, the reality star hasn't given up on herself. From the blood clots that have threatened her life to the mental health issues Tammy still lives with, these are all of the health crises that the 1000-lb Sisters star has faced.

Tammy's weight loss journey has been difficult for some viewers to watch. Tammy and Amy decided to embark on their mission to lose enough weight to qualify for bariatric surgery on 1000-lb Sisters season 1, but they haven't gotten the same results. Amy was successful in qualifying for bariatric surgery, which means that she was able to accelerate her weight loss. This led to a healthier life for Amy and even allowed her to give birth to her son, Gage Halterman. Regrettably, Tammy hasn't had the same health journey as her sister. Tammy is unable to meet the weight requirement for bariatric surgery, which has culminated in a plethora of health issues.

Reality star Tammy has struggled to lose weight throughout her run on 1000-lb Sisters, making her more vulnerable to a variety of health issues. According to SoapDirt, Tammy almost died due to a blood clot in her lungs this past April. After the clot moved to the reality star's lungs, Tammy had to be put on life support. Fortunately, the star was able to recover. Tammy also had problems with her lungs in the past, due to contracting the COVID-19 virus. Last November, Tammy revealed that she had COVID-19, as well as pneumonia. In a YouTube video, Tammy explained that she was in the hospital for "just about two weeks" and she had to go on oxygen to keep her lungs "sturdy." Tammy has also confessed on the show that she lives with a bad gall bladder, high blood pressure, and a thyroid problem.

In addition to her physical ailments, Tammy also has mental health issues. Tammy's addiction to food may be linked to her mental health challenges. One reason why it's so difficult for Tammy to adequately address her weight problem is that she is dealing with addiction, and it's very hard for some addicts to give up on their bad habits without help. Fortunately, Tammy recently checked herself into a rehab facility for her food addiction problem. Additionally, Tammy lives with depression and has had suicidal thoughts. In a 2019 interview with PEOPLE, Tammy revealed, "I attempted to kill myself last January." Understandably, Tammy's friends and family were deeply concerned about the reality star's mental health and have done their best to support Tammy while she tries to overcome depression.

Although 1000-lb Sisters is ultimately about Tammy and Amy's relationship, Tammy's health is a constant concern among the fanbase. From Tammy's recovery, after a blood clot was found in her lung, to the entertainer's ongoing attempts to conquer her addiction to food, Tammy is someone with many health issues. She is set to take on all of these health issues and more on 1000-lb Sisters season 3 this November.
