Amy and Tammy Slaton haven't been the most politically active while on their weight loss journeys in 1000-lb Sisters, but Amy's recent Instagram post surprised some of the sisters' followers with its controversial political message. Although fans were happy to see the Slaton family together in a recent collage Amy shared on Instagram, viewers were divided in response to the conservative content featured in the post. From Amy's divisive Instagram post to the family's progressive takes on sexuality, here's why many 1000-lb Sisters fans are surprised by the Slatons' politics.

Ever since 1000-lb Sisters season 3 concluded, the Slaton family's followers have depended on Amy and Tammy's social media accounts to keep up with the ever-eventful lives of the Slaton sisters. Tammy has been active on TikTok to update her followers on her fitness journey while recovering in a rehabilitation facility. Although she's been inside the rehab for months, viewers are cautiously optimistic about Tammy's weight loss progress. Amy, on the other hand, has been concerning viewers with her latest posts. First off, Amy's fans fear she's falling further from her health ambitions as she prepares to welcome a second baby. Most recently, however, 1000-lb Sisters fans are surprised by the Slatons' politics featured in Amy's Instagram post.

While most of Amy's Instagram activity has been dedicated to her pregnancy, the 1000-lb Sisters star took a break from posting about her children to share a preview of a night out with her family. Although Chris Combs was absent and Tammy obviously couldn't make it due to her current rehab stay, Amy was in the company of 1000-lb Sisters stars including her husband, Michael Halterman, and her sisters, Misty and Amanda. Most controversially, Amy was in the company of a young boy wearing a hat in support of former President Donald Trump. While it's unclear how the boy's related to the Slaton clan, viewers assume he's Amanda's son. In the description of her post, Amy shared that the family saw a band called Confederate Railroad, which caused even more controversy among the 1000-lb Sisters fanbase. One Reddit user responded, "Somehow I don’t get good vibes from that description."

Although Amy and the rest of the Slaton family have kept their political ideology out of 1000-lb Sisters, fans were surprised to learn of their conservative-leaning takes. One reason why fans were so shocked to learn about the Slaton family's conservative politics from Amy's Instagram post is their embrace of Tammy's sexuality. In 1000-lb Sisters season 2, Amy and Michael embraced Tammy when she came out as pansexual. Viewers found this to be one of the few uplifting moments of 1000-lb Sisters and a progressive triumph for reality TV in general. One fan noted, "[The Slatons] accepted Tammy for her sexuality and they took a trip to a drag show... that doesn’t seem like a conservatives pass time." Other commenters assessed that being part of the LGBTQ+ community doesn't always equate to being progressive, however, as one viewer shared, "I know a good handful of gay or trans conservatives."

Although the Slaton family members have never claimed to be staunchly progressive or conservative, some 1000-lb Sisters fans are surprised by the Slatons' politics. While it was open-minded for Amy to embrace Tammy's pansexuality, viewers think they got a better sense of the Slatons' political alignment from the Trump paraphernalia featured in her Instagram post. Hopefully, for 1000-lb Sisters fans on the other side of the diplomatic spectrum, the Slaton family keeps their politics off-screen.
