It's true that 1000-lb Sisters has always been controversial, and Amy Slaton Halterman and Michael Halterman's romance is one reason why. While the two get along very well on the show, some followers are worried about their dynamic. While both currently have positive outlooks, they also have dark pasts, and fans hope that their union doesn't become problematic in the future.
Michael and Amy have known one another for decades, since they actually grew up in the same city (Dixon, Kentucky). Both attended Union High School, and that was where they first bumped into each other. For years, the two dated, and they finally married in March of 2019. It is apparent to viewers that Mike and Amy value their relationship greatly, and work hard at making their marriage successful. The couple recently started to expand their family, and they are awaiting the birth of their second son, who is due this summer.
According to some 1000-lb Sisters viewers, not everything is as it seems for Michael and Amy. Before meeting in high school, the two reportedly had uncomfortable interactions when Amy was only eight years of age. According to one of Amy's YouTube videos, which has since been deleted, Michael was 14 when he started hanging out with eight-year-old Amy. A Reddit user, u/D3imosNexus, revealed that Amy's brother told Michael to experiment with his sister, and locked them in the basement. It was there that Michael allegedly showed his private parts to Amy. The idea that any of these alleged facts could be true doesn't sit well with viewers, who feel that the claims damage the image of the show.
Michael has also been arrested for Assault Fourth Degree and Domestic Violence with Minor Injury. The incident came after an altercation with his grandmother. 1000-lb Sisters viewers are concerned that something more sinister might happen in the future. For the most part, Michael comes across as quiet. In fact, he hardly says a word when the cameras are rolling. However, there may come a time when Michael loses his cool.
Even though the 1000-lb Sisters couple comes across as living in marital bliss, fans are not totally convinced that they don't have their own problems. Season 4 has yet to be announced, but Amy is already talking about taking a break from the show in order to raise her children. While fans can't exactly put their fingers on what is going with the couple, many hope that they don't turn into a major problem for TLC.
