Amy and Tammy Slaton often find themselves at odds on 1000-lb Sisters, and the reality show's fanbase has made it clear they play favorites. Even though Amy and Tammy have a loving sisterly bond, the pair's dynamic gets complicated when it comes to the duo's contrasting weight loss journeys. From Tammy's inability to take accountability to Amy's role as her sister's caregiver, this is why the 1000-lb Sisters fanbase is always Team Amy and never Team Tammy.

Despite embarking on the same weight loss venture throughout their run on 1000-lb Sisters, Amy and Tammy have had two disparate reality TV experiences. Although it was a struggle, Amy ultimately lost enough weight to qualify for bariatric surgery at the end of season 1. This meant Amy's life was less limited in a variety of ways. Chiefly, Amy could now start a family with her husband, Michael Halterman, and in November 2020, Amy gave birth to her son Gage. As Amy enjoyed her newfound freedom, Tammy's lack of progress in her weight loss endeavor only made the Slaton sister more bitter and resentful. As the 1000-lb Sisters season 3 trailer indicates, Tammy's regression will lead to more conflict between the duo of reality stars.

Before the sisters started working toward their goals to undergo bariatric surgery, Amy and Tammy had an established dynamic unfamiliar to most siblings. Essentially, Amy and her husband Michael have acted as Tammy's caretakers for years. Tammy's weight makes it difficult for the reality star to do most things on her own from making meals to getting up a ramp. On 1000-lb Sisters, Amy and Michael have been generous in their care of Tammy and often include her in trips they take together. Because Amy is often conveyed as a thankless caregiver, it's easy for fans to always take the younger Slaton sister's side. When Tammy is upset with the futile state of her weight loss journey, she tends to use Amy as a punching back. Naturally, fans will sympathize with Amy, who they've seen go out of her way to accommodate Tammy.

Tammy and Amy Slaton sit on the couch for a confessional in 1000-Lb Sisters Season 3

On top of Amy volunteering to be Tammy's caretaker scoring the younger Slaton sister extra points in the eyes of the 1000-lb Sisters audience, viewers tend to be Team Amy because of Tammy's immature attitude. Tammy is quick to lose her temper and lash out against her sister for small things like buying the wrong food. Tammy comes off as the aggressor, prompting fans to come to Amy's defense. In addition to bullying Amy, the 1000-lb Sisters audience is tired of Tammy coming up with excuses for her unsuccessful weight loss attempt. Whenever Amy and their brother Chris Combs try to have constructive conversations with Tammy about her weight, Tammy gets defensive and refuses to take responsibility for her setbacks. Although fans wish Tammy could take accountability, the television personality usually just reverts to throwing a tantrum until her siblings let it go.

Tammy and Amy both deserve support in their harrowing weight loss efforts, but Tammy's behavior on 1000-lb Sisters has made her look like a villain to fans. While Amy's perceived as a martyr for trying to help the sister who bullies her, Tammy's immature actions make it harder for viewers to see her perspective. Unfortunately, the inevitable divide between the siblings on 1000-lb Sisters season 3 isn't likely to recruit more fans onto Team Tammy.
