1000-lb Sisters star Chris Combs has come a long way on his weight loss journey, but without surgery, he says he would've died. His commitment and dedication to his overall health and making better choices have been inspiring to witness throughout the seasons. Chris faces deadly health issues in his family, but he doesn't want to let statistics define him, and instead is taking control of his life.

When Chris set out to help his sister Tammy Slaton lose weight on 1000-lb Sisters, he had no idea how much his life would change. Although Tammy faced dire consequences if she didn't start taking her health seriously, Chris faced the same uncertain future due to his unhealthy lifestyle. However, he knew he needed to turn things around before it was too late, as his life was literally hanging in the balance too. At the time, qualifying for bariatric surgery felt like an impossible goal for him.

Chris Combs Wants To Live A Long Life

Chris' family has been his main source of motivation to turn his life around on 1000-lb Sisters. He wants to be around for them longer than what the odds say he should be. In the end, Chris knew that getting approved for weight loss surgery would increase his chances of making that dream a reality.

In a recent TikTok video, Chris candidly explained that he would've most likely died without the surgery and said, "If Tammy wouldn't have got hers, she wouldn't have lived another five years. Me, myself, if I wouldn't have got it...most of my family passed away around 60 and 65, and I'm 42 now, so I'm trying to live past the 65 mark." Even though weight loss surgery comes with its fair share of dangerous outcomes, Chris knew it was worth the risk and what it would mean for his future.

Chris Combs' Asthma Could Have Held Him Back

Just like other members of the Slaton family on 1000-lb Sisters, Chris is no exception when it comes to troubling health problems that can affect his daily life. For him, his asthma has been a life-long issue that he has to manage to ensure he has a better quality of life each day. In order to be approved for the procedure, Chris had to pass a lung test, which could've stood in his way and changed the trajectory of his entire future.

In his TikTok video, Chris explained how his lung disease could've impacted his weight loss surgery and said, "My asthma is well maintained with my prescriptions. If I don't have any medicine, my lungs work at 55%, and if I do have my medicine regularly like I'm supposed to, it's upwards between 80% and 90%, so really, it wasn't a big issue." Thankfully for Chris, his prescriptions have made it possible to keep his asthma under control, allowing him to get the necessary bariatric surgery.

Being able to go forward with the surgery has changed Chris' life in various ways. Now, he not only has the opportunity to live a happier life, but he also has a new appreciation for it, which in turn has pushed him to keep forging ahead on his weight loss journey. Chris' next step is to qualify for skin removal surgery once he loses 50 more pounds. Hopefully, he can continue with the same momentum, and when 1000-lb Sisters returns, he will have accomplished his goal.
