Amy and Tammy have endured harrowing weight loss journeys on 1000-Lb Sisters, and the duo of Slaton sisters have confessed what makes their diets so difficult to commit to. Several factors have acted as obstacles in Amy and Tammy's unending effort toward weight loss. From giving up soda to replacing fried foods, this is everything that makes Amy and Tammy's weight loss goals so arduous to achieve.

Amy and Tammy's shared mission on 1000-lb Sisters is to lose enough weight to qualify for bariatric surgery. In season 1, both sisters struggled to stay on track with their progress. Specifically, Tammy consistently lost significantly less weight than she was advised to by Dr. Procter. During 1000-lb Sisters season 2, Tammy's weight loss journey got even more complicated when it was reported that the reality star started moving in the opposite direction and gaining weight back. Tammy has come up with many excuses for her unsuccessful weight loss venture, including Amy not being a good enough caretaker. On the other hand, Amy was able to meet her weight loss goals and underwent bariatric surgery at the end of 1000-lb Sisters season 1.

Although Amy and Tammy have had disparate experiences with their weight loss attempts, both Slaton sisters have been open and honest about the difficulty they've endured. Even though Amy successfully qualified for the bariatric operation, the 1000-lb Sisters star admitted that it wasn't easy to adhere to the diet her doctor set for her. Specifically, Amy and Tammy agree that removing soda from their diet was very challenging. In an interview with In Touch back in January 2020, Amy clarified, "The food part is okay. The sodas were really hard." Many 1000-lb Sisters fans might be surprised to learn that Amy found her relationship with soda was harder to change than her relationship with food. Tammy also agreed that soda was tricky to forgo, but added that she also struggles with abstaining from fried foods.

Ultimately, Amy was able to ween herself off of the carbonated beverage. After months without the drink, the 1000-lb Sisters star shared, "I haven’t even thought about sodas really. Well, every now and again, I’ll crave one." Fortunately, Amy has been able to stay off of the sugary drink and find new alternatives. Amy stated that she now prefers to mostly just drink water and coffee. Tammy is still struggling to lose enough weight to get bariatric surgery like her sister has, but the television personality shared that she is better at refraining from enjoying sodas and fried foods. Tammy explained, "I’m still having trouble giving up soda and fried foods, but I think I’m doing a lot better than what I used to do." In the season 3 trailer, Tammy demonstrated that she's still struggling to cut the most addictive foods and drinks out of her diet.

Amy and Tammy have both worked hard to make progress in their divergent weight loss endeavors. Surprisingly, soda turned out to impede Amy from reaching her goals, although she was eventually able to part ways with the carbonated drink. Tammy agrees that drinking soda's been a pesky habit to overcome, but she has yet to sever her ties with the bubbly beverage. Hopefully, Tammy will be able to retire soda on 1000-lb Sisters season 3.
