Amy Slaton-Halterman, star of TLC's 1000-Lb Sisters, is starting off the new year with some exciting news: she and her husband, Michael Halterman, are expecting their second child. This announcement comes a little over a year after the birth of their son, Gage, whom Amy is working to make a better life for, as seen in the current season of the show. Motherhood has been a longtime dream of Amy's, but it was something she couldn't achieve prior to her dramatic 100-pound weight loss. Soon, she'll have not one but two bundles of joy to call her own.

Throughout her pregnancy with Gage, Amy endured her fair share of obstacles. Since she was still recovering from her bariatric surgery, there was a higher risk for complications. She also caved to the pregnancy cravings, which threatened to undo much of the progress she made. Regardless, Gage came into the world happy and healthy on November 10, 2020. Over the past year, Amy's parenting has received much scrutiny, especially regarding the cleanliness of her home. In a recent episode of 1000-Lb Sisters, when the self-admitted hoarder called in the help of professional organizers, mice and cockroaches were seen scuttling about. This struck a chord with a tearful Amy, who vowed to do better for the health and safety of her son.

As Amy and Michael work to improve their housekeeping habits and prepare to move into a larger space, they'll have someone else to include in their plans. Three days into 2022, Amy took to Instagram to share with her 325,000 followers a major life update; she's 12 weeks pregnant. In the post, Amy shared a screenshot from a pregnancy app that compares the baby's size to fruits at various stages of growth while in the womb. At this point, little Halterman No. 2 is approximately the size of a lime.

Fans largely expressed support for Amy and Michael. One follower said, "I am so happy for your family!!!! You're an amazing mommy these babies are so lucky to have you." Many are excited for Gage, whom they feel will be a great big brother. A number of fans have their fingers crossed for a girl so that Amy can enjoy the "best of both worlds." However, not all of the comments were positive. Some of Amy's followers voiced concerns that the baby will have to sleep in the kitchen and live in dirty conditions like Gage. "She had rat feces in her kitchen cupboards," said one viewer. "Where #2 sleeps isn't as important as her complete lack of cleanliness." In response, the diehard fanbase of 1000-Lb Sisters came to Amy's defense. One commenter stated, "She's announcing her bundle of joy and you're dishing our criticism? At least wait, geez. That's why she hired organizers, she obviously knew there was a problem. I bet your house and life is perfect." Another said, "They have moved out and I can damn near promise she's probably got it under control especially after how upset her old house made her."

It's likely that the latter argument is true. In the last few episodes of 1000-Lb Sisters, viewers have witnessed Amy take steps to put her own family first. She's fed up with being the sole caregiver of sister Tammy Slaton, who refuses to take the necessary action to drop some of her 600-plus pounds. Amy hired a home aide for Tammy, called in professional organizers to learn how to embark on a cleaner path forward and went house hunting with Michael. Fans of 1000-Lb Sisters hope these changes are permanent and that Amy thrives in this next chapter of life as a mother of two.
