The 100 season 7 is definitely happening, but when will it release and what can fans expect from it? Last year's The 100 season 5 closed the cover on book one and set course for an entirely new story, one that took the core characters from Earth to a different planet in a different solar system.

Of course, they lost some people along the way - namely Monty and Harper in the season 5 finale, and then Marcus Kane in the middle of season 6 - but a slew of new characters joined the fold as well. As it turns out, a world with two suns wasn't any better than Earth. People there had their own problems to deal with, and that ended up affecting everyone else, including those who were still on the space ship.

Now that The 100 season 6 has come to an end, viewers are, of course, looking forward to next year's The 100 season 7, which will ultimately bring the show to its 100th episode. Here's everything that we know so far about The 100 season 7.

The 100 Season 7 Renewal

Bellamy aims a gun in The100

In a rather bold move, The CW ordered The 100 season 7 one week prior to the season 6 premiere in April 2019. It's rare for the network to make renewals like that ahead of time, when they typically like to wait until seasons are at least midway through their release (or closer to when the seasons end) before making those announcements. At the time, it was believed that, because of the early renewal, The 100 season 7 would be the series' last. Unfortunately, that became a reality during the network's TCA presentation in August 2019. Series creator Jason Rothenberg confirmed the news on social media, stating that The 100 season 7 would indeed be the final season.

The 100 Season 7 Release Date Info

The 100 season 7 doesn't have an official premiere date yet, but given the fact that both season 5 and season 6 have debuted towards the end of April, it's plausible that The 100 season 7 will also premiere around then in 2020. While most broadcast and cable shows tend to stick to a somewhat rigid release schedule, The 100 has been all over the place. It originally released in March and then moved to October for one season before returning to late winter/early spring. Since The 100 season 7 will air 16 episodes for the first time since season 3, it's possible that in order to accommodate the extra time, The CW will release The 100 season 7 sometime in March 2020.

The 100 Season 7 Story Details

The 100 season 7 will undoubtedly have a focus on the anomaly that was briefly explored in season 6, especially now that Octavia is gone (and possibly dead) and Hope (Diyoza's daughter) is an adult. It's clear that time doesn't flow the same way as it does on the rest of the planet, so seeing how that all comes together for the series finale will certainly be interesting.
