Zoolander 2 In Financial Trouble?

Zoolander 2 financial troubles Zoolander 2 In Financial Trouble?

Last week we reported on the disappointing news that Anchorman 2 has been stopped in its tracks after Paramount passed on the project due to production costs. I’m definitely one of those people who was sad when that news surfaced.

If you thought that was the end to news of trouble regarding sequels to great modern comedies, think again. There’s word floating around that Zoolander 2 might be in similar trouble.

Zoolander himself, Ben Stiller, recently took to Twitter to update folks on the status of Zoolander 2. It’s not a hard and fast confirmation that the sequel is in trouble, but what Stiller Tweeted certainly isn’t the good news you’d want to hear about a movie currently in the works:

“Ron Burgundy and Derek Zoolander looking to appear in sequels. Both men destitute, without means or intellect to fund their own comebacks.”

As I said, not an absolute confirmation of trouble at camp Zoolander 2 (or even as official sounding as the Tweet from Anchorman director Adam McKay) but it sounds to me like things are not going well.

The last we heard about Zoolander 2, Stiller said it was definitely on the way and even gave some hints as to what the plot might be (it would apparently take place 10 years later when Zoolander and Owen Wilson’s Hansel are virtually forgotten about in the fashion world). Although not an official green light, Tropic Thunder scribe Justin Theroux was reportedly writing the script alongside Stiller, with Theroux even eyeing the director’s chair.

Even with all forward motion, it’s entirely possible that Paramount may pass up on Zoolander 2 in the same way it did Anchorman 2, again due to the dreaded high production costs. Of course, most of you probably don’t care about the studio’s financial dilemmas and are left wondering why we’re not getting to see more really, really, ridiculously good-looking male models up on the big-screen.

Does Stiller’s Tweet make it seem like Zoolander 2 is facing the same kind of trouble as Anchorman 2? Would you want to see another Zoolander or is one enough?

  1. The two projects should pool their resources and make a ‘Zoolander Meets Anchorman’ film.

  2. =chants=
    Fail Fail Fail Fail Fail Fail Fail please for the love of Cthulhu *Fail…

  3. Although I feel bad for the techs and crafstmen who would be employed for this project…..I have to say “The World does not need another Zoolander.” ( Of course I felt that way about the first one)
