Zoolander 2 On Its Way!

Have you ever wondered if there was more to life, other than being really, really, ridiculously good looking?

It’s finally happening folks! After nearly ten good years of talk, speculation and forgetting about it a few times, Zoolander 2 is on its way. According to a Deadline exclusive, Paramount will be working with Ben Stiller and Justin Theroux (Tropic Thunder, Iron Man 2) to bring a sequel to the whacky 2001 comedy.

Theroux is spending some time at Paris fashion shows to get in the spirit and he’ll be working alongside Stiller to pen the script. Stiller himself helped co-write the first, developing the character of Derek Zoolander with the help of Drake Sather and John Hamburg.

For fans of the first, you know full well that what made the movie special, was the playful relationship with Zoolander’s nemesis-turned-friend, Hansel, played by Owen Wilson. As of yet, he is not set to return but they’re hoping to bring him back and I believe they need to for this to feel right.

In addition to Stiller starring again, the bursting-into-stardom comedian Jonah Hill is in negotiations to play the film’s feature villain. Will Ferrell played the villain in the first movie so I wonder what we can expect of Hill’s character. I suppose working with Stiller in Night of the Museum 2 instead of Transformers 2 paid off.

If Zoolander was about a dimwitted fashion model at the end of his career, what is the 10-years-later sequel going to be about? More importantly, will there be another Billy Zane cameo? I hope so.

The first film was not a success in theaters, due in no small part to its release date just over two weeks after the events of 9/11. It picked up a major cult following on home video and is one of the most quotable films of the last decade.

Are you interested in seeing Zoolander 2?

  1. “Are you interested in seeing Zoolander 2?”

    No.

    • Screen Rant, you don’t get to comment twice. You are the minority and clearly you have no sense of humor whatsoever.

  2. It all depends on how good the story is, and if it takes up where the first film left off, or we skip a few years between the first film and the sequel.

  3. YES!! Zoolander is one of the funniest movies of all time. Mer-Man!!!!!

  4. My answer would be, “Yes” :) It's pure good fun and looking back on the first, it's LOADED with big stars.

  5. To be fair, I only made it about 10-15 minutes in. I found Stiller and the character he played painfully unfunny. The guy just doesn't work for me – thought he was the absolute weakest thing in Tropic Thunder (which I loved, BTW).

  6. Tom Cruise was the weakest for me. Way too forced, I couldn't laugh at him.

  7. I don't particularly like Ben Stiller, but Tom Cruise was hilarious in Tropic Thunder.

  8. There's no way it will be as good as the first one.

  9. Owen Wilson saved Zoolander, but you have to get past the first half of the movie for the payoff. I agree about Tropic Thunder. Everyone else made that movie except Stiller. Tom Cruise and Matthew McConaughey were both hilarious doing roles that are unlike what they are normally cast for. Jay Baruchel, Brandon Jackson, Steve Coogan, and Danny McBride all shined way more than Stiller in their shorter screen time. I can't say that I dislike Stiller though. I did enjoy Something About Mary, Meet the Parents, and Dodgeball…but each of these movies has him surrounded by a strong cast…by the notion, Tropic Thunder really should have been his best movie ever. I could care less about a sequel to Zoolander even if Owen Wilson returns.

  10. they should bring back a mystery men movie as well…or a reboot those are popular now of days

  11. I can't believe the people on this thread. The first movie was horrendous. Ben Stiller isn't funny nor a good actor. If you all want to waste your money on this crap, fine by me…. maybe if you're real lucky they'll film it in 3D too…….

Hell no, not interested in the least………….

    • When most people disagree with you, you know you are wrong. I bet $1000 you can’t make me laugh.

  12. I'm not going to say that Zoolander was the funniest movie I have ever seen, but parts of it are got me laughing and I still quote from it now and then. They definitely need to bring Hansel back though since he really made the first movie.

  13. To be honest whilst I wasn’t a huge fan of the first I wouldn’t say no to a sequel as long as it doesn't end up rehashing the first without giving it a new element. But it definitely needs Owen Wilson to return so that it doesn’t end up being a one sided Stiller movie.

  14. @dannyboy: YOU NAILED IT SIR! Stiller to me is one really inept actor and if possible a worse director. Nothing about him to me is funny in the least. ( Well, his parents are brilliant, but that is where the talent is.) He reminds me alot of Cage in respect to actual timing and frame captivity. He surrounds himself with actual talent, which buffers his poor performance. Mr. Wilson and Bowie were the parts that worked in the film and I fear this is all for the $$$. I will pass.

  15. @spawnacus I agree Owen wilson saved the film. I'm not too interested in the sequel but wont say I wouldn't watch it on dvd.

Tropic Thunder was funny though. I liked Jr character lol.

  16. i don't mind sequels, prequels, remakes, reboots or whatever..
but in this situation, it seems like all that talent could be spent more wisely.
it takes along time to make and release a movie, and nobody's getting any younger.

  17. Interested? In a sequel to the worst movie I have ever seen? No thanks. This was devoid of anything interesting, and it featured the worst actor in Hollywood, Ben Stiller.

So no, not really interested; no.

  18. While I agree that Ben Stiller was the weakest link, can we agree that Robert Downey Jr. basically stole Tropic Thunder out from under everyone?

He seemed to have the funniest, raunchiest and most memorable lines in the movie (just got the Director's Cut DVD today, will be watching it later), and he made it worth watching.

  19. Worst then Megan Fox?

  20. Worst then Megan Fox?

  21. Zoolander is up there with my all time favourite movies. Like someone before said though, the movie started about halfway through for me too, when Hansel and Derek team up, from there it was awesome. I love the chemistry between those two guys and whether or not you like Stiller's constantly on edge characters or not, they play beautifully againt laid-back ones like Hansel. I think Ben Stiller's input into some of the best movie comedies is unrecognised by a lot of people. Having said that, I think I will boycott it if Hansel and Mugato aren't in it! Tooshie Squeeze!!!!!!!!

  23. Zoolander was one of those movies that you watch once, quote sometimes, but rarely or never watch again. I'm not sure I could sit through sequel to it, and I just don't know that it's a good idea to even try. I'm thinking that a washed up fashion model in 2001, would be even more washed up in 2011.

  24. Dude. You people are nuts. The first movie was amazing! Always cheers me up. I love quoting the movie. I don’t care if you people didn’t like the first one I did. Maybe something about the concept of male supermodels doesn’t appeal to you?

  25. YES!!!! the absolute funniest movie ever i think i might go into encephalitic shock when number 2 comes out. They need owen wilson what would the movie be without hansel

  26. I AM SO EXCITED TO SEE ZOOLANDER 2. MY LIFE IS DEREK ZOOLANDER<3 <3 HANSEL IS SO HOT RIGHT NOW.

  28. Listen to your friend Billy Zane.. He’s a cool dude.. LMAO! I can’t wait to see the sequel! <3

  29. I love zoolander, hansels my fave and the movie is boring until derick and Hansel team up. I dont no how they will make a number two but sounds great! IN THE COMPUTER, IT’S SO SIMPLE!!!!!
