‘Zombieland: The Series’ Trailer – Remember the Rules

Published 2 years ago by , Updated May 12th, 2013 at 7:29 am,

Amazon scored a high-profile victory when it opted to develop an original series out of the cult-hit film Zombieland, but many have been wondering just what kind of series the popular online marketplace would be able to produce. Today, we have our first hint of an answer, thanks to a new trailer for Zombieland: The Series.

The series is scripted by the creators of the original film – that would be Deadpool movie writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick – and in the director’s chair for the pilot is Eli Craig  - best known for the cult-hit horror/comedy, Tucker and Dale vs. Evil.

Unfortunately the stars of the original Zombieland movie aren’t returning for the series. Instead, actor/comedian Kirk Ward will take over Woody Harrelson’s role as “Tallahassee”; Tyler Ross (Boss) will play Jesse Eisenberg’s character, “Columbus”; Maiara Walsh (Mean Girls 2) replaces Emma Stone as “Wichita” and Izabela Vidovic (Christmas Angel) takes over for Abigail Breslin as “Little Rock.” If you aren’t familiar with any of those names and/or faces – no worries, we aren’t all that familiar, either.

Zombieland The Series TV Trailer 2013 Zombieland: The Series Trailer Remember the Rules

Cast of ‘Zombieland: The Series’

So far, the footage for Zombieland: The Series isn’t all that impressive. In an era where AMC’s zombie apocalypse TV series The Walking Dead is a ratings heavyweight, this show just doesn’t quite measure up. Sure, there’s clear DNA of the original film in that trailer – what with the sardonic wit or stylistic signatures like the tried-and-true “Zombieland Rules”… but the actual footage looks like something out of a fan Webisode.

That’s not to say the zombie makeup isn’t passable – it should be, considering the series has people like Toby Sells (who worked on Walking Dead) in the makeup department. It’s just that there is a very “sound stage” budgeted look to this zompocalypse world that’s being created, which makes suspension of disbelief a bit more difficult. And bless Kirk Ward for his effort, but just doesn’t wield the same charisma Harrelson did as Tallahassee. Not even close.

Nitpick’s aside, the appeal of Zombieland: The Series was to provide a wider playground in which to explore many other stories and adventures with these characters, and that’s certainly still an achievable goal.

You can check out Zombieland: The Series on Amazon Instant Watch in the very near future.

  1. This looks absolutely terrible. Like a low-budget fanfiction from someone who saw the movie once back when it first came out and just now decided to write a script based on what he remembered.

  2. Double Tap this show quickly.

  3. I really hate when a good idea gets beaten to death.

    • The good idea being “Zombieland” and this show beating that idea to death. *ahem*

      • Hardly beating it to death. If it was done well i think there’d be lots of people up for spending more time with those characters in that setting.

  4. UGGGGHHH! The really sad part is this kills any chance of ZL:2.

    • My god. I didn’t think about it but you’re right! Man, that sucks…. :(

  5. If this is what Amazon hopes to compete with Netflix’s original series like House of Cards and Hemlock Grove then they are in for a rude awakening I fear.

  6. Who’d return to this?

Even in a trailer, the black person dies first.

  7. This show will bomb, HARD.

  8. OMG, all this hype and the show looks EFFIN terrible!!

  9. The quality reminds me of a few movies turned into tv shows in the 90′s. Weird Science the Series or Bill and Ted the Series(live action not the cartoon). That isn’t a pleasant reminder either.

    • YES!!!! I knew it had a familiar feel to it! It looks really, really bad.

  10. This looks like a disaster… Wow

    • Scary Part.

Some people would stop to see a disaster unfold.

      I would not watch this.

  11. It’ll probably fail. Walking Dead raised the bar pretty high and I don’t see this one living up to it.

  12. Wow, a very underwhelming trailer…and come on Amazon, you can’t afford better voice-work for the trailer?

  13. Lame voiceover in the trailer, horrible acting, horrible writing, just all round bad.

Then again, I had to force myself through the terrible movie this series is based on.

    • Terrible movie? Than why would you be interested in a tv series based on a movie you hated? Would you honestly expect the special effects, writing, directing or acting to be better in a big budget movie? Or a net flicks style tv show? Of course the tv show would be less than the movie. I can’t imagine anyone hating the movie stopping in to check up on the tv series based on that movie. Or do you just like ripping on things others clearly like?

  14. wow…..i had somewhat high hopes for this, but after that trailor, i hate to say it but i really dont think this show will be good, maby they should have went with a different group of survivors in the same timeline as the movie characters instead of getting some actors that have no physical or acting resemblence to the movie characters….i just dont see this show becoming a hit

    • I agree they should have just gone with fresh meat in the same theme park…

  15. It feels a bit like the Weird Science tv series that USA did in the 90′s.

  16. guys its not that bad……..give it a chance

    • somebody once said that for Hitler…

      • +1

  17. people who are replacing Woody and Ema are horrible…

    • The purpose of a trailer is to sum up the series and excite us about it. If it did not work on someone they have ever every right to say so. For me it was the shot of the plane going down. If you pause it there it looks like a poorly made fan art movie poster.

  18. I wanted to be excited for this series because I absoulutely love the movie. This though is not going to be good at all. After Amazon(their selection on Prime sucks) picked it up my faith was starting to wane and this pretty much does it for me. I won’t even bother with this. Hopefully when it bombs they will kick this out of continuity and do another movie down the road with the real stars. If not I’m perfectly fine with the original movie as being a stand alone.

  19. OMG people. You just completely summed up an entire show off a 20 second trailer? Why not just give it a chance? If it at all captures the spirit of the movie, then there could be something here.

    • They are trying to convince me to pay $80 for a yearlong subscription to Amazon Prime in order to watch this show. That trailer didn’t sell me anything. I’m not renewing Amazon Prime for that.

  20. uggh…

  21. I’m sorry normally I’m not nitpicky like this but I seethis getting canceled pretty quick. In all honesty there should’ve been a sequel not a TV series with a grouwof people, who I’m sure are no where near as good as the originals. If they were going to do this they should’ve done completely different characters, not a complete recast. Ill give it a chance, but I don’t see it getting far.

  22. Heh reply went to wrong spot there. Had the correct one in the area below my response and all.

  23. I love walking dead but it lacks comedy

  24. Kinda lame compared to the movie, and since you can’t ignore the movie with this kind of thing I’m going with full on lame… Sorry

  25. Special effects looks horrible but this does have some comedy in it ill check it out

  26. So its not even on television? It’s on freaking AMAZON??? Yeah, it’s going to suck.

  27. This seems like one of those shows, were when I get older, my kids will watch Zombieland and like it, then they will find out there was a tv show and ask me if I saw it and I will just say no because it was crap

  28. “ah crap our actors have been replaced by more affordable people!”

  29. Good god, what have they done to a good movie. They should of just turned this into a saturday morning cartoon show.
