I’m surprised Daniel Day Lewis didn’t get nominated for his performance as the Tiger in “Life of Pi.” I thought he was genius!
lol
Skyfall just get snobbed.
Skyfall actually got a lot of nominations (5 total) in technical categories and could very well win Roger Deakins an Oscar for cinematography.
Should be interesting to see how many of them Skyfall picks up.

I hope you guys review mama instead as thats what Ill will be seeing.
I think we’re pretty firmly in The Last Stand corner but I’m seeing it Wednesday. If it won’t be fun to talk about we’ll go with Mama.
That said, I’m probably seeing Mama this weekend myself, regardless.
As you wish Mr. Kendrick.
1 Mama
2 The Last Stand
3 Broken City
4 0 Dark 30
5 Gangster Squad
10 Lincoln
I would not be upset if Vactor doesn’t talk on any more of these podcasts.
“The only thing funny was how bad it waaasss.”
Indeed.
I think he was hilarious and he has a pretty cool and smooth “radio voice”. Or in other words: I would not be upset if Vactor would talk on more of these podcasts.
1. Zero Dark Thirty
2. The Last Stand
3. Gangster Squad
4. Silver Linings Playbook
5. A Haunted House
10. Lincoln
I’m having a hard time understanding all the Oscar love for Silver Lining Playbook. It’s an enjoyable movie and has some good characters but I didn’t find it amazing in any way. Really weird.
Zero Dark Thirty on the other hand, I thought was fantastic and is my favorite out of the other Best Picture nominees so far. The gunfire in the last twenty minutes were so sharp and loud, I kept jumping out my seat. Very intense! I’d love see Kathryn Bigelow tackle something outside the military/thriller genre now that I think she’s in her prime. I think that’d be really interesting to see.
Anyways, good podcast.
I think Kofi is right that “playing crazy” got it nominated in several categories.
1. Zero Dark Thirty
2. Mama
3. Broken city
4. The Last Stand
5. A Haunted House
10. Parental Guidance
I really think that Chastain deserves the oscar, her performance was unbelievable and she killed each scene she was in! Especially as her character began to gain more confidence you could see her performance really blossom. I recently watched Django unchained and I completely agree that Christoph Waltz deserves recognition, but personally it really felt that Waltz’s character was the protagonist and that Django himself was mostly a by-standard. That being said I thought Samuel Jackson was amazing as well and should probably be up there instead of DiCaprio.
I felt the same way about Waltz, he really does steal the spotlight a lot. I assumed that was because of the roles they had in the film but even when it was just him and Foxx in the beginning, his performance was more engaging.
Though, as Kofi mentioned, the idea of how Django was having to “play a character” explains some that disconnect.
1 Last Stand
2 Zero Dark Thirty

4 Broken City
5 A Haunted House
10 Lincoln
1. Zero Dark Thirty

Also, Jason Clarke is following around Joel Edgerton as well (or vice versa?) They’ll both be in Gatsby this summer. Edgerton is Tom and Clarke is George
I forgot they were both in Gatsby. Interesting…
Me too! But I know it is. Too bad, I forgot this week.

#1 Zero Dark Thirty
#2 Mama
#3 The Last Stand
#4 A Haunted House
#5 Broken City
#10 Parental Guidance
I’m surprised there was no mention of the DiCaprio snub on the podcast. That was one of the major ones that stuck out for me.
I do agree with you guys about the “Zero Dark Thirty” Best Original Screenplay nomination. I thought that was odd. I wasn’t crazy about “Looper” when I saw it, but that was more deserving of an Original Screenplay nom than “Zero Dark”
We definitely forgot a few things that we wanted to talk about – that was one of them. The Academy just doesn’t seem eager to recognize DiCaprio still (even after 3 prior nominations).
