avatar 2 confirmed Youngsters Pry James Cameron For Hints on Avatar 2

Two very lucky and very young press representatives had the chance to interview James Cameron and his wife about Avatar. The two Na’vi supporters, Hannah and Dylan, are part of the self-titled “The Interstellar Teen Press” of the Santa Barbara Middle School program.

Strolling the red carpet incognito as two lost Na’vi seeking information about their home from Pandora’s master and creator Jamers Cameron, the two youngsters line-up at the red carpet of the Arlington Theater and had the chance to run a lengthy discussion with Cameron himself where he reveals what may be some details about Avatar 2.

Check out what Cameron had to say in this very special interview:

So, as many have suspected online, the Avatar sequel may take place in large part on the second moon surrounding the planet

Let’s quickly run-through some of the literature surrounding what we know about Pandora, the moon of which the film Avatar took place on. Pandora is one of many moons surrounding the gas giant known as Polyphemus. This planet is in the Alpha Centauri system, which to us measly humans on Earth, is the third brightest star in our night sky (actually, it’s a binary system which to our naked eye, looks like one big bright star – Polyphemus orbits Alpha Centauri A if you’re interested).

According to Avatar-related fiction, there are thirteen other moons orbiting the big gaseous planet, meaning there’s plenty to explore in the sequels. Although it would seem strange and highly unlikely that another moon in the same system, let alone orbiting the same planet, would also be habitable if that’s the path they choose to go. Perhaps there’s an outpost or base setup elsewhere?

Even though Fox is planning Avatar 2 after it became the #1 all-time grossing movie and passing the $2 billion mark, it may take a while for Cameron to bring the project to life with the other work he has lined up. Fortuneately for fans, it will be a vastly easier process bringing the sequel to fruiting since all of the concept, design work, new tech and research has all been done and the groundwork is there to expand upon.

What would you like the sequel to explore? Any ideas on how Cameron could incorporate the other celestial bodies near Pandora?

Stay tuned for more Avatar buzz as we close in on the 82nd annual Academy Awards.

  1. This is what my story for AVATAR 2 would be.

I would have an incoming shuttle from earth after being told to keep away from pandora going to mine on the 2nd moon( they had done a fly by survey that found small amounts of the mineral they are after but not enough for fullscale mining). This moon is quite barren.

They set up a base and start mining then are attacked by a race of 8 ft humanoids with some advanced technology, who capture most of the humans. A few escape and flee to Pandora where they enlist Jake and a few other Na'vi to help rescue the humans.

We find out this race destroyed much of their world thousands of years before and most fled the moon. A few landed on Pandora and geneticaly engineered themselve to live on the moon and became Na'vi and engineered some of the beasts to serve them as mounts and the tree's into eywa to keep them from destroying pandora. The rest fled to earth and became human( where we get legends of fallen angel's, giants who mated with earth women etc. )

The Humans and Na'vi have to rescue the captives or this race will rediscover intersteller flight.

  2. OK here's my best shot. Keep in mind at this point I'm a little upset so pick at it but keep in mind the frame of mind in which it is built. Here goes…
The whole “Avatar” mess with its suspicious science and fast/loose playing with genre types has really got to me. So lets talk general Science, Astronomy and everything.

First lets take a look at the weapons technology used in the movie. Now go back to the weapons used 125 years ago. Now compare them to todays weapons. Can you imagine the lack of human involvement and precision alone after another 140 years? My imagination can't even stretch that far. I would guess in less than 50 years each projectile would be guided to its target. The U.S. army already has field testable microwave enemy deterrents that can deny the enemy close ground confrontation. I would say 25 years from now they would easily be able to extend that to any bio-airborne combatant. That means you can't get close to even engage your enemy because their's a pain field. As the military move forward they would push combatants back.

80 years ago Aldous Huxley in “Brave New World” imagined a gas that would put rioters to sleep. Now in this picture they used tear gas, but in a hundred years with new knowledge of brain chemistry they probably will invent a gas that will make you want to obey what people in command tell you to. So really I don't even see the whole Avatar program even existing. They just go in day one, capture a local. Map their brain. Then Tailor a gas that works on them. With molecule size processor chips and fully functional A.I., and some advanced F-ray MRI, how long could it take? With processor power still doubling every 18 months today, this scenario is ridiculously plausible. Cameron was showing most technology that was from the 1980's. Shoot the entire planet had Internet connectivity into all the brain waves on the planet! Just pipe in some acid rock into all the soul threads. That aspect would surely make mind control easier. If that is a problematic way of handling the situation then you saw they brought some of those 20th century tunnel diggers, right? Why didn't they just tunnel under the ground. Mine what ever it was they wanted out from under the Na'vi? Hmm, this reminds me of a Simpson episode or maybe that movie “Their Will Be Blood.” Remember that one, the ” If I have a straw” in your milk shake example?

What was that they wanted Unobtainum? Like where is that on the periodic table? You know the periodic table that hung up in the high school Chemistry class. From the look I got it wasn't just any mineral but a metal. No wait. It didn't have to be a metal but noble metals and other materials are diamagnetic. How do I know this? One of the cubicle people was playing with a piece of it on one of those rare earth magnetic bases.

Now if you know anything about high school physics and James Cameron has a physics degree by the way, then you know that anything diamagnetic or ferromagnetic has a relative low resistivity or a high conductivity, that means electricity flows easily through them! Now here's all the materials in the periodic table that have good conductivity and a few in the table that don't. The ones that don't are separated at the bottom by a line. Also notice I included the temperature coefficients which when plugged into a formula effect how conductive they are. You'll notice that most of them are to the right of the decimal place which means they are something less than 1. Now the first element is Silver.

    Element Resistivity Temperature coefficient* [K−1]

Notice that the table uses that old scientific notation stuff where a number is multiplied by a base number that is raised to a power. That would be like 3 times ten to the second power would equal 300. Now 1.59 times ten to the negative eighth power. That means that the number is right of the decimal place like so .000 000 0159. The engineering unit is ohms. Rather than labor over the math and what Ohms is, just take a quick look at how Silver compares to Mercury.

Mercury is like one order more resistive than Silver. Now look at Glass? It's like 63,000 million times more resistive to electrical flow than Silver. What does all this fancy science mean? Well since the vast majority of the elements on the periodic table are metals, and if it's at least diamagnetic then it's not anything near fused silica that the Na'vi where sitting on but a giant conductor. It makes perfect sense. They could communicate with and through everything. So Pandora was really just like, a giant ball of wire. OH wait, balls of stringy stuff? No wonder these people looked like cats! So summarizing, we're going 25.8 trillion miles, one way mind you, for an extension cord! How Fracked up is that?

Anyway, to appreciate how far that is, if we used the bleeding edge technology we know that's achievable today, an anti-proton-initiated fission drive, yeah that's a form of anti-matter propulsion, we could conceivably zoom along at 30 million miles an hour. Don't even think about what hitting anything at that speed is going to do to you. Just imagine how long it will take to slow down once you get up to that speed? Mind you, this is just a fraction of the speed of light which is like 600 million miles an hour, roughly.. Just imagine too the wasted energy slowing down at that speed after you accidentally clip Babylon 5 on your way to Pandora? At that rate of consumption you'll need to push or drag the sun along with you for power. Maybe that's why we needed that long extension cord for, to get back to Babylon 5! So, moving at speeds near light is just out of the question, especially in 2140AD. At the much slower fractional speed, but still ridiculously fast 30mmph, it would take 100 years to get to Alpha Centauri. By the way the space half way between the suns' Oort cloud and Alpha Centauri is just full of stuff to hit and if their are planets there then you probably got another field around that star!

So now why would you go so far on such a dangerous journey for an element that doesn't even exist? It's not on the periodic table. If it was it would be next to Gold or Platinum or something expensive. It has to be conductive. By the way, did you know the Earth's core is made of a highly conductive metal? It's called Iron!! The asteroid belt is theorized to have plenty of metal. Most metals are recyclable too. So really scientifically this movie's mission is pointless and wasteful which is just the opposite to the message its trying to communicate. It's reality is shaped by its morality that equals Fantasy.

Let just say for a minute you could go the speed of light and create inhabitable Avatar bodies then other technical elements follow no stochastic method I've ever seen in a Science Fiction story. How do you get mind transference by machine but you can't have a gas that makes a population compliant, all caliber independent targeting projectiles, advanced anti-personnel pain fields, or mining machines that act basically like giant metal/mineral processing worms? Even doing the heinous thing of nuking them from orbit, they would use some kind of neutron bomb. That wasn't something developed like in 2070 but like 1970.

I got to thinking lately with “Dune” and all and it so happens Frank Herbert wrote another series of books some call the voidship series. Which I read years and years ago and you know what “Avatar's” Pandora sounds a lot like Frank's; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jesus_Incident
    Hmm imagine that!

  3. i would like to see cameron direct avatar 2 and have it be a character drama which costs only 30 mil to make.

  4. It may take place in large part on another moon? I was hoping he would expand more on Pandora, possibly introducing a new evil that poses much more of a threat than greedy humans. Perhaps even put a twist on it as he did with T2 and make the enemies from the first film allies in the sequel.

Whatever he chooses to do, I'm sure Cameron will stay true to form with a remarkable sequel. Thanks for the article, Rob!

    Bane

  5. That must've been cool for those little kids. I'm not a fan of James Cameron and I'm not into this whole “Avatar” craze, but that was neat what he did for those kids haha but his poor wife! I'm sure she's like “Ok honey yes yes love your little Na'vi alien language. Let's go…”

But yeah AVATAR 2? I don't know how they would do that… I don't really care to be honest, but from what I saw it's not open for a sequel unless you go to the other moon and introduce completely new characters. I don't see how they could do a good sequel (but of course the first wasn't even good so…)

  6. I just would like it if the story was a little more complex. Avatar had a pretty safe story that made it easier to sell the general public on 10 foot tall blue catpeople not being some crazy idea. If he can expand and develop past that then I'd be game for a sequel. Something like his comment about Terminator Salvation where he thought the movie was okay, but it didn't take any risks and push the envelope. Avatar did technologically and in storytelling, and I hope a sequel would do that for story.

  7. Good post. Me like scienc-ie stuff.
I agree going the speed of light is nigh impossible. The “fold” theory is much more believable at this point, and even that is hard to fathom.

  8. TMI old school

  9. I love this post. I'm a big Cameron fan of his earlier films. With Avatar, he went the way of Star Wars Episode 1 for me. At least I'll always have the old films from the 70's and 80's. Thanks for the heads up on Frank Herbert's Pandora. Cameron had a similar problem with Terminator. Harlan Ellison sued. It was too similar to Demon With a Glass Hand. Since then Terminator ends with a title card acknowledging the work of Ellison.

  10. Very easy what the story would be.

    Avatar 2

Picks exactly there up where one ended.
The Humans left, and Jake Sully and the rest of the Navi look for a new home since the tree was destroyed.
So they move to some old caves or other old tree the Navi lived long long time ago.
Arriving on at this place Jake discovers some old Wall carvings or paintings…you know the ones we have from the stone age or in Egypt.
Those paintings or tree carvings are from the time were the navi weren't able and before the evolution to be able to network them selfs with the planet and with the nature .
They describe the Chronicles and history of the navi and that long long time ago they came from Polyphemus before something hit them and destroyed them.
Maybe they had a war and fought each other and had to flee the planet cause it couldn't sustain life anymore….storms earthquakes and so on.

So the navi had to flee..and they learned from there mistakes, and became peaceful and learned to live with nature.

    That..was long long time ago.
And even the Navi believe it's maybe just a story…..and not a fact.
Just one thing makes Jake a bit wondering, something those wall carvings say..sounds to familiar and not like sci fi,some sciene facts or what so ever no navi could know but it's true ! ( or what so ever, need to think about that point)

Anyway,he doesen't care about this carvings or paintings anymore as it's history or just an old story as we take it with the Mayas wall carvings.
So they forget about it and go on with there live.

Time passes peaceful on Pandora, until one day…
Some of the Humans who decided to stay..are took posts on the space station surrounding the planet, and they get a signal or message on the radar.

An arriving fleet of Humans….Marines and Military as it seems.
On course to Pandora..they will arrive in a couple of weeks or days or what ever !(Need to be worked out) Of course, they wouldn't take it,and too arrogant and maybe changed the facts to bring earth to war.

The news arrives with Sully and the navi….what chances do they have..to fight them off.
In this moment Sully remembers the old wall carvings and the story..of the Navi ancestors …and with no other hope of what to do and how to fight such an powerful enemy…he's only hope is that the destroyed world of Polyphemus somehow still is harboring some off those weapons that were so strong, that they even changed a world into a storm driven what seems gas giant.

He's hopes are..that under that clouds of gas, somewhere there in that world,is a weapon to stop the arriving humans and to be able to save the navi !

So,the put a team together,of Humans and Navi..take a space ship and go on a Mission to Polyphemus.

All goes fine, but this adventure will not be easy, and for sure..people will die.
They approach the gas planet and as they try to dive through the storm driven atmosphere they ship crashes. Some die…,they are stranded.

But not without a hope ,they world they found under the storm layers…is still more or less intact, and in recovery…but devasted..lightning storms…seas of acid and so on.

So there journey begins and the adventure,to find a way out and of this planet alive, find a weapon or another mean to defend against the arriving Human fleet.

Against time, against a planet that is like poison….even for the navi. All is new.
The March begins into an unexplored dangerous world, were the navis past will be revealed
    or
    “This Time it's War”

That would be my story in a way,it's just a quick write.
Sure some points need to be over worked, but it would be fun to see a group of heroes explore a dangerous new world…destroyed city's in ruins…and find something, nobody would suspect. Not a real weapon in the end…but something that can save them.

    Stop there…and then Avatar 3.
So Avatar 2 would be just the Adventure on the planet, with some cuts back to pandora to see how the rest of the navi are doing. :)

    Enjoy
