Johnny Depp has made quite a name for himself portraying larger-than-life characters over the years, ones like Edward Scissorhands, Willy Wonka, the Mad Hatter and, oh yeah, Captain Jack Sparrow. But his last two films, Disney's The Lone Ranger and science fiction drama Transcendence, were pretty much universally panned by critics and barely managed to make back their production budget, leaving many fans wondering what would happen to Depp's career.

Well, the actor's next big film is this winter's musical fantasy Into the Woods, where he'll be playing the big bad wolf in what looks to be an intriguing adaptation of the popular Broadway show. Then of course there's the sequel to Alice in Wonderland, recently titled Through the Looking Glass, releasing in 2016, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales in 2017. So it appears despite Depp's recent missteps, there's still a lot for fans to look forward to, including a newly announced collaboration with a certain comedy director.

THR reports Depp and Clerks director Kevin Smith are teaming up for a new movie called Yoga Hosers, which will also star the duo's daughters Lily-Rose Depp and Harley Quinn Smith.

Principal photography begins this week on the film that follows 15-year-old yoga nuts Colleen Collette (Lily-Rose Depp) and Colleen McKenzie (Harley Quinn Smith), who spend their evenings working at their after-school job at a convenience store called Eh-2-Zed. But when an ancient evil rises from beneath the crust, the two Colleens must join forces with a legendary man-hunter named Guy Lapointe (Depp) to fight for their lives using “all seven Chakras, one Warrior Pose at a time.”

And for those who have been wondering if Smith would ever make a comic book movie, the director says Yoga Hosers is his entry into the genre:

"People always ask me: 'Are you ever going to make a comic book movie?' This is it — but instead of yet another dude saving the day, our antiheroes are the most feared and formidable creatures man has ever encountered: two 15-year-old girls.”

Kevin Smith

Yoga Hosers is Smith's follow up to Tusk, a horror film releasing next month at the Toronto Film Festival, and is the second installment in his True North trilogy of movies based on Canadian myths and culture.

Tusk has interestingly enough been rumored to co-star Depp as Guy LaPointe. So it seems the character will first get his start in that film, before joining the entire cast of Tusk on Hosers, including Michael Parks, Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Genesis Rodriguez, Ralph Garman and Harley Morenstein. New to the cast will be Tony Hale, Natasha Lyonne, Austin Butler, Adam Brody, Tyler Posey and Jason Mewes.

Many actors have tried starring with their children in films, but it doesn't always end well. Yet Yoga Hosers seems like it could be very different, since Depp is not directly playing a father figure. This way the movie won't focus too much on the parent-child gimmick over the actual story.

Yoga Hosers is expected to release summer 2015.
