I really hope that X-Men Origins: Wolverine is four hours long.
In fact, I hope that Gavin Hood leaves the film and that Kevin Costner takes over directing duties. Only then will it make sense to have so many characters crammed into one film.
Dominic Monaghan, Daniel Henney and Kevin Durand have now joined the cast of Marvel’s newest superhero extravaganza.
According to Variety :
“Monaghan will play Barnell, a mysterious character from Wolverine’s past who has the ability to manipulate energy and electricity. Henney will portray Agent Zero, a member of the Weapon X program and an expert tracker with lethal marksman skills.”
Meanwhile, Film School Rejects has a scoop that states Durand will play The Blob. Apparently the actor has already been “live-scanned” and he will be heading to Canada to shoot scenes next week.
The three actors join the rest of the Screen Actors Guild in this spin-off from the X-Men trilogy.

I don’t mean to sound sarcastic… well, yes, I do - but I don’t want to be. I had high hopes for this film and it seems like it’s just going to be filled with characters from the Marvel universe, leaving little room for Wolverine.
I hope that David Benioff’s script justifies these characters, and that we aren’t left with another Marvel film like Daredevil.
Maybe all of these castings can be justified - I know nothing about Marvel comics (I was always a DC man) and I went into the original X-Men film with low expectations in 2000 and it blew my mind. Since then I’ve been an avid fan of the film franchise and Hugh Jackman (one of the few good leading men under 50 in Hollywood).
I just hope this turns out well.
We will find out if Wolverine cuts the mustard on May 1st, 2009.

I am really hoping that this movie doesn’t suck because I really like Jackman as Wolverine and would LOVE to see a couple of stand-alone Wolverine films. It almost sounds like they are auditioning characters in the film to get audience responses for FUTURE movies based on those characters. I blame Spider-Man 3 for the inclusion of all these characters. 3 villians in one movie that made a lot of cash, so Hollydud must figure that is what everyone wants so we’ll jam-pack more super-beings into the movies. I just hope I am wrong, though…
All lot of the characters mentioned are minor anyway and probably won’t take much away (not that they necessarily belong).
My belief with X-Men and now with Wolverine is the studio is trying to show how many mutants populate this particular universe. It’s not the same as Spiderman where each super-powered character is a fluke, mutants are born with powers and represent a reasonable segment of the population. X3 was just rediculous though - Singer did well with the first two movies having a balance.
Each character doesn’t need a lot of screentime, my fear is that characters like Gambit are forced in, don’t really belong, and are only there to attract a certain fanbase.
Yep. Right on Panda. I hate that about comic book movies. And I really hate it when they take a charecter and give him powers that he isn’t supposed to have. Monaghan’s “Beak” Is basically a bird. He has never had any ability to manipulate energy or electricity. And her was never anywhere in Wolverine’s past.
I’m not familiar with these characters, but I envision something like a prison where mutants are held captive and/or experimented on. Or some other reason for them all to be together. So I doubt the characters each pop in sequentially. More like an ensemble experience.
Is any one from the Alpha Flight gona appear in this movie. Cuz as I remember they were the ones who gave Logans humanity back.
By the way Vic I liked Daredevil It could have been better but at least it wasn’t worst I would say its a medicore movie.
Daredevil was good. It totally captured the comic. People who “hated” it were people who probably never read the book…
I thought Daredevil was a fairly good capture of the character. His motivation and confliction were handled well. Thought DD’s costume was rendered well. They captured the spirit of Kingpin, I didn’t need for him to be a fat white guy. Any more than I needed the comic version of Bullseye’s costume–I really like concentric circles! (Havok)
I also liked DD for the MOST part, I just didn’t care for Ben Affleck as him. But yes, I do own it on DVD.
Elektra, on the other hand, was awful.

yeah, if they’re gonna throw in characters that were’t part of the comic story, why chose Beak for crying-out-loud? It didn’t occur to me who “Barnell” was til you mentioned the name. How lame.
I guess if they change his powers, sure that’s better, but then why not just make up their own mutants rather than borrowing names the given names of D-list characters from the comics.
Sorta like making a movie about Nightcrawler without Nightcrawler and calling it “Jumper” HAH!
panda/mantis: different barnell buddy, beak didnt show up until a couple years ago and he was like high school age, and like you said, is completely different.
Jim Carey + the mantis: your entitled to your opinion, i didnt like the daredevil or elektra movies at all, and ive read a crapload of the books. and by the way kingpin’s all muscle.
niall browne: i think how you felt about the xmen movie is how a lot of non-xmenbookfans felt, but in my humble xmennerd opinion, the movies were aweful and way off mark if you were hoping for anything like the books, entertaining? yes, but if you love the book as much as i do, i felt like it was too distracting to witness all the “dammit thats not how it happened, thats not true, thats not an accurate (insert character)!”
i think hugh jackman isnt wolverine at all. wolverine is short, has black hair, is stocky, very hairy and kind of ugly, and has more of an all-knowing but depressed as hell feel to him than that confused look hugh jackman always has. and even though some of the book artists draw the claws coming from between his knuckles, that doesnt really make sense- the back of the hand makes more anatomical sense (open and close your fist) and thats where those 3 little metal things are on his hands and or costumes depending on your artist.
