I know what you mean! I feel VERY torn about the Iron Man coverage I do here because I really, really want to enjoy that movie when it finally comes out.

I wouldn’t get too worried about the team switching powers. I’ve read the movie adaption in book format and the power switching thing is just a small subplot. They’re obviously showing that in the trailers to get people’s attention. There are some people who really don’t know anything about the FF but are familiar with the characters powers,and this trailer is going to make some people think “what’s up?”. And to find out what’s up,they’ll have to see the movie (which is,of course,what Fox wants them to do). The part in the film where Doctor Doom takes the Silver Surfer’s abilities is taken straight out of an FF storyline. That story can be found in FF #57,the 1st series by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Pick up Essential FF vol.3 and you can read it.

Again, I’m split down the middle.

A.) The trailers are going to show just enough footage to get us interested and say, “Ohhhh… that looks good.” They want to appeal to the adventure seekers and the comedians. I’d hate to see them make the “goofy” goof out of this. It has potential as long as they don’t screw it up.

B.) Between all of the trailers we see about 7 to 10 total minutes of the probably 2 hour movie. So I think we are safe, BUT we’ve all seen the movies that they have all the good parts (action, punch lines, etc) IN the trailers, so it leaves nothing in the movie.

Like I said, I hope they don’t screw the pooch on this one.

I’ve never really been a reader of FF either, at least not since I was a kid. I’m just afraid it’ll go off into “goofy” in the movie with the sharing of powers. Pretty much every scene in the commercials and trailers has been a “ha ha” moment when it comes to that.

Don’t know what they’ll do with the Silver Surfer in this one. At the very least I’m pretty sure the Earth won’t be destroyed.

I’d have to agree, Vic. And disagree.

Although I’ve never been a big follower of The Fantastic 4 storyline as a comic, nor the storyline of Silver Surfer (actually the comics I have read of SS were so boring and mundane they usually gave me a head ache), I’d have to say two things. One, by them switching powers would allow them to be better team mates and using their abilities to aide or channel the others’ powers (like we seen in F4 part 1, during the fight with Dr. Doom) and become a more effective team, learning exactly what the others can or can’t do.

On the other hand, sharing powers like we see Torch doing here does seem a little over done. I mean, would getting hit with a HUGE flaming rock fist really hurt that much more than just a HUGE rock fist by itself??

I don’t know if this “sharing” is historically accurate, but I’m sure its not far off. But I do know that Silver Surfer becomes a good guy in the comics, maybe we see him turn in this film?
