Less than a month before the release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine comes news that another spin-off from the lucrative X-Men franchise is going to be yet another prequel.
When X-Men: First Class was first announced, many thought that it would follow the adventures of the younger mutants from the high grossing franchise. Now Lauren Shuler-Donner has given details on what to expect from the film – if Wolverine hits it big at the box office.

Speaking on the Fox Movie Channel Donner gave details about the First Class prequel, which is currently in development (being written by Josh Schwartz):
“It is the first class of Xavier’s school, way back when, so it’s young Scott, young Jean, young Beast and that’ll be really fun, I think (the plan) is to follow some of the characters into their own stories, and weave them back into the X-Men world.”
“And hopefully First Class will become its own franchise and we can follow them as they grow up.”
It’s a shame, really, that this is yet another X-Men prequel to follow Wolverine and the forthcoming Magneto. Marvel and Fox appear to be milking the X-Men franchise for all that it’s worth. However, as per both studios, they’re going for the cheapest option. The X-Men movies just got too expensive to make with Halle Berry winning an Oscar and Hugh Jackman going A-list.
Prequels with younger stars and built-in name recognition seem to be the order of the day – except of course Wolverine, because that has become Jackman’s signature role. Will Patrick Stewart have a role in X-Men: First Class? Who knows. But I’d imagine that he’ll have a cameo at the very least, probably using the same de-aging tech they used for his X-Men: The Last Stand flashback.
Will X-Men: First Class see the light of day? That depends on how many people downloaded and watched go to see Wolverine.
X-Men: Origins: Wolverine opens on May 1, 2009. X-Men: First Class is still in early development, so no date yet on when (or if) the film will be hitting theaters. We’ll keep you posted.

ppnkof it all makes sense now you actually consider action important. Personally for me the story and character development are by far the most important thing. I thought X2 delivered perfectly on action I didn’t need anymore at all. Just like Batman Begins was an amazing film and the action in there was far from impressive. I think X2 was perfect on action and maybe you should go back and watch it again. The mansion gets attacked and wolverine is slashing up guys like crazy. Deathstrike and Cyclops fight. Wolverine and Deathstrike. Cyclops and Jean the big cop car scene at Icemans house the Jet getting blasted wide open. I mean there is a jet fight in the film for chist sake. Nightcrawler running through the white house was bad ass as well.
I agree and disagree with you SK47. People don’t blame the writers nearly enough and they did play a part in the god awfulness that was x3 however Brett is more to blame. His decisions had a horrible impact on the film. Then again his decisions have a horrible impact on every film he makes.
i read half of the comments and for you “rebooters” just think of this film as a What If? comic and this would be if the X franchise was the mainstream universe. And The mutants should be
Cyclops
Jean Grey
Beast
Storm
Banshee
Quicksilver <\
Scarlet Witch
X-Men:First Class should strickly start off with:
Scott Summers/Cyclops
Hank McCoy/Beast
Warren Warthington/Angel
Bobby Drake/Iceman
Jean Grey/Marvel Girl
Angel should be a runnaway from his father for a short period of time until warren sr. finds him and takes away warrens memory in a lab and that explains why angel goes to the mansion in X3 and doesnt remember because his memory was taken
Iceman will be a young bobby drake, still immature and despite his name a real hothead, eventually leaving the team for a while
New character additions:
Mimic
Polaris
Havok
Changeling
lets be real this would kick ass since its the same as the comics
Mimic turns bad
Polaris gets kidnapped by Mister Sinister, and X-men have to save her
Havok turns out to be Cyclops long lost brother and that would be ill to see the two brothers
Changeling would die because thats what happens in the comics
After Angel,Iceman,Mimic,&Changeling are out, in comes:
Gambit, especially since he’s in Origins
Storm,
Sunfire,
Thunderbird, who will also die like in the comics
Banshee
also Wolverine, but a cameo
then i would like to see a “days of future past” type thing, where Bishop, and Cable both come from the future and the present x-men have to do something to prevent an apocalyptic future, even the x-men from outerspace like Longshot and Shatterstar, and i think some sexy female x-men like:
Dazzler
Emma Frost
Psylocke, who will later turn into Revanche
Petra and Sway who both die
And at the end when many x-men have died, and others have left not able to stay for their own reasons, the only x-men will be cyclops, jean grey and storm, and that will lead up to the other 3 movies
And of course this movie would suck without:
Professor X, Cannonball and Forge
Villains:Mister Sinister,Mimic,Apocalypse,Mojo,Revanche
and Magneto and Mystique will cameo
I think they should re-boot. They should have Rogue appear in X-Men first class in a cameo, have Ice Man appear that way too but in a role as he is too immature so that it works in the main films although instead he is in his teens in first class and a restudying 20 something year old
