James McAvoy reveals the Fox X-Men film that he believes is among the best movies of his career. Taking over the role of Professor X from Patrick Stewart for the soft reboot of the X-Men franchise, the actor debuted in the role of Charles Xavier in X-Men: First Class and reprised it three more times. Despite the fluctuating quality of the films, McAvoy's performance, alongside the majority of the core cast, has been praised. Aside from that, one film from the revitalized timeline, X-Men: Days of Future Past, stands out as having become a fan-favorite.

As it turns out, McAvoy agrees with the consensus about the 2014 Fox Marvel film. Following rumors that he didn't enjoy his time playing young Professor X opposite Michael Fassbender's Magneto and that he only took the job because of money, the actor now addresses those mutterings in a new interview with GQ, emphatically debunking them. To prove it, he even dubbed X-Men: Days of Future Past as one of the best films he has ever starred in. Read McAvoy's full quote below:

It was one of the most positive experiences I've had with a studio. I don't really [see them as just] money gigs. Days of Future Past I think is one of the better films that I've been involved in.

Why Days of Future Past Is An X-Men Movies Highpoint

X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)

X-Men: Days of Future Past is still considered one of the best installments of the X-Men series. The second movie from the prequel continuity, the film was the sequel to X-Men: First Class and further explored the origins of the mutants team. Fox went all out with the Bryan Singer-directed flick, as it boasted a star-studded cast featuring both past and present iterations of the core characters. That meant that aside from McAvoy and Fassbender, X-Men: Days of Future Past also brought back Stewart and Ian McKellen's iterations of Professor X and Magneto. Meanwhile, Hugh Jackman reprises his iconic role as Wolverine, who worked with both versions of the mutant legends.

It's no secret that Fox's X-Men franchise had a lot of issues, especially toward its end with X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix. Interestingly, however, the second installments from each timeline were both well-received. X2 is universally loved and is one of the better Marvel films released before the MCU began in 2008. However, X-Men: Days of Future Past is arguably the best from the franchise. Aside from magnificent performances, the story was actually well-done, effectively utilizing its time-traveling concept. The film also gave birth to the legendary Quicksilver slo-mo scene that has become a signature of the prequel series.

As Marvel Studios absorbs the X-Men into the MCU, it's still unclear whether Fox's iteration will be fully rebooted, or if they will be considered part of the burgeoning multiverse. Unlike the Fantastic Four films, which the public never really had any emotional investment in, fans are actually attached to some aspects of the Fox X-Men franchise, especially with a film as well-made as X-Men: Days of Future Past. Stewart's cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness certainly displayed an awareness of this on Marvel's part, so expecting a few more familiar faces throughout the Multiverse Saga wouldn't be unreasonable.
