Hugh Jackman wasn’t kidding when he said that X-Men: Days of Future Past wouldn’t just be a sequel or reboot of the X-Men series, but a family reunion of almost everyone who appeared in the past. With the younger stars of the first films – Iceman (Shawn Ashmore), Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page) and Rogue (Anna Paquin) – all returning to their superhero roles, it seemed like it would only be a matter of time until director Bryan Singer got around to confirming that Colossus would make the reunion of younger heroes complete.

Thankfully, Singer has taken to Twitter to tease the return of Daniel Cudmore (Colossus from X2 and X-Men 3: The Last Stand), as well as a few new faces for roles that hint at the larger arcs – and villains – that may be making their way into the story.

The reveal came courtesy of a photo Singer tweeted showing a wall full of headshots of the award-winning actors already returning, with a few as-yet-unannounced faces, and some obvious missing pieces. Have a look:

Cudmore’s photo jumped out immediately, meaning that the fan-favorite hero Colossus will be given another chance to shine onscreen (pun intended), being one of the high points of X-Men 3. As much as we’d hope to see more of Piotr Rasputin’s past explored in the film, it’s more likely that Colossus will be called upon for his special effects, not his complicated backstory.

One of Cudmore’s Twilight Saga co-stars will be joining him in the shift from vampires and werewolves to time-travelers and alternate realities, as Boo Boo Stewart is also joining the cast in an unknown role. But the far more telling addition is that of Chinese actress Fan Bingbing’s, reported to be playing the mutant known as ‘Blink.’ In the comic books, Blink was a young woman gifted with the ability to teleport herself and those around her. She would go on to become the leader of the Exiles, as well as playing key roles in a few X-Men arcs.

For comic book fans, the inclusion of Blink could be yet another sign that the “Age of Apocalypse” storyline is going to be a major factor in the reality-hopping plot of Days of Future Past. If Apocalypse isn’t going to be showing up (meaning Omar Sy isn’t playing him), then adding Blink for her abilities alone seems too coincidental.

For now we trust that Bryan Singer has a plan, and rest easy knowing that even if Apocalypse doesn’t make an appearance, the Sentinels will still be on hand to deliver some exciting action sequences. Whether those are taking place in the modern world or a dystopic future is anyone’s guess.

Bryan Singer will direct X-Men: Days of Future Past with returning stars Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, and yes, Halle Berry.

  1. This movie is going to be TERRIBLE!.. I kinda hope it does terrible so we can finally get a reboot and a proper Xmen movie

  2. This news is even more reason for the DOFP team to make more than one movie. Besides, it’s more exciting to watch a huge story like this unfold over a few years’ span of time (like LOTR).

  3. Confused…How does one include Blink…without…mentioning err Phalanx? And people are ok with her Being played by an asian actress? but not ok with Jamie Foxx playing Electro???

  4. The visual effects team is going to make or break this movie. Now that we saw Iceman’s Ice Form in X3 we better see it again. Hopefully he realizes his powers and limitless and we see more confidence. Also bringing back Colossus’ Steel Form and introducing Sunspot’s Dark Form (maybe) is going to be interesting to see. I hope Colossus has a bigger role, but probably won’t based on the other names in this film Also how are they going to show Blink’s powers and Bishops? Blink’s teleportation is different than other teleporters because she uses her powers with projectiles instead of vanishing. Are they going to do Bishop’s powers like Shaw’s? This whole film could be amazing if done right or completely terrible if done wrong.

  5. What most of you people don’t seem to understand is the vast majority of people that will see this film have never read the comics that it is based on. Many of them probably don’t realize there is a comic about the Xmen. Heck, I read the comic as it was published and I can barely remember the details, so little discrepancies are not going to matter.
