They sure don’t waste any time over at Summit Entertainment. Just one day after Screen Rant reported on speculation that Harry Potter actor Tom Felton might snag the coveted role of Riley in Eclipse, the third film in the massively popular Twilight Saga, The Hollywood Reporter has reported that the part has gone to Xavier Samuel, a relative newcomer out of Australia.
According to IMDB, Samuel has appeared in a handful of films in Australia. Eclipse will mark Samuel’s American debut.

I wonder if young Mr. Samuel realizes just how absolutely insane his life just became. The casting of an unknown actor to fill out the Twilight universe is no big surprise. Before Robert Pattinson landed the prime role of Edward in the first Twilight film, the actor’s best known work was as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter. Now, the guy is on the cover of every teen magazine in the world. I guess that’s the trade off: deal with bloodsucking vampires on screen and blood sucking media in the real world.
So, what’s the big takeaway from this casting news? Well, if you’re not a fan of Twilight, nothing at all really. You can continue to live your life ignoring the hordes of screaming pre-teen girls (unless you’re going to Comic-Con of course.) If you do like Twilight, however, then Eclipse just added one more pretty young face to its rapidly expanding cast of vampires, werewolves, and other mythical beasts.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is slated to begin filming August 17, 2009 and will hit theaters on June 30, 2010.

Nothing official from Summit yet so I’m crossing my fingers this is fake. Dont get me wrong, the guy looks the part but I’d love to see Felton get the job.
good riddance, i say. give the guy the part and leave tom felton out of this train wreck of a movie. tom is and will always be the ice prince of slytherin, draco malfoy. no effin way he’s going to be dragged as a sparkling vampire boytoy!

Anyway… I’m glad that’s it someone not recognisable. If Tom Felton got it, throughout the movie I’d be saying “Hey look! Its Draco” the entire time.

I saw the play too! I really hope he gets the part. Xavier looks more like how I pictured Riley than Tom does, but we’ll see how it ends up, I guess.
I like Channing Tatum for Riley better. He is who I always picture in my head when reading Eclipse.
