Okay, X-Men: The Last Stand wasn’t good. Considering how great the first two films were, the third was woeful in comparison. While most people tend to blame Brett Ratner, I blame the suits at Fox.
Ratner isn’t a bad director, in fact I quite like him, he knows how to make a good popcorn flick, and his stab at a Hannibal Lecter film was much better than Ridley Scott’s. Yes, you did read that correctly.
The Last Stand was ruined by a release date and Fox’s wish stick a finger up at Bryan Singer, who bailed from the franchise to direct Superman Returns (a film that I really like).
Now that the money grabbers at Fox have realized that it’s just too expensive to continue with the X-Men franchise in its original incarnation, they’ve apparently decided to milk the cash cow my going straight to DVD with a series of origin films.

Cool it Hugh Jackman fans, this doesn’t mean the Wolverine film is going straight to Blockbuster. Jackman’s too big a star for that and I reckon that his salary is going to be more than the combined budgets for these new “Origins” flicks.
Word on the street is that minor X-Men characters are going to get their chance to shine. It’s not a bad idea, and considering that Hollywood is going straight to DVD crazy it makes a lot of financial sense.
It’s an interesting idea and it could work, but let’s just hope they stay away from Halle Berry!

As an update to this, it seems that Joe Carnahan is making noises regarding a Juggernaut movie which may tie into this story.

This sounds good to me as long as these X-men stories don’t suck.
^
The 3rd X-men film had one of the biggest mistakes in it that I’ve ever seen in a sci-fi film.
^
You know when,,
Right before the last battle with Magneto on the GG bridge its a sunny day and then next scene its nightime???
^
Like I didn’t notice…..
Sure the Pryo-technics look better at night but try to work the physics into a more realtime enviromental setting…..or start the battle at night…wtf? Gheeeesh.

I have to disagree with you on whose fault X3 was. Listening to the commentaries (especially the producer one) i get the impression that Fox let Brett Ratner have a lot of freedom in making this film. That freedom includes the truly disgusting decision to have Rogue take the Cure.
I won’t claim to know the whole story and it is likely you know more of the behind the scenes stuff than i do but i’m laying the blame squarely with Mr Ratner. I’m not saying that he’s a bad director, but X3 was a bad movie and it was his fault.
Oh, forgot to mention that the “Direct to DVD” could be awesome. Hopefully the films still get a reasonable budget so that they aren’t totally b grade.
I am so very angry that Xmen is going straight to dvd. While I admit the 3rd movie was a downer (thanks to fox… i say spend MORE time and MONEY on a movie and get your moneys worth in the end)
the thing i wish for them to do is atleast try to make up for it in a 4th. Straight to DVD?? Most of my time is not spent watching straight to DVD movies. AKA B-movies. Speaking of downers… Spiderman 3 killed me as well. Its a horrible curse that the terrible 3s’ have. Lets hope transformers make a stand. And not their last.
(terrible cliche?)
But where do they take the story? “Secret wars”? It would be a little different, if you could get the studios to cooperate. A “Secret Wars” story could bring back the dead from “X-3″.
What a whopper? To finally see the awaited sequel of the X-men:the Last Stand was a devastation to watch.I waited for the upcoming movie so long just to watch in horror that Scott a.k.a. Cyclop dies in the movie.Frankly I couldn’t finish the movie because something was missing from the movie. It felt like being given a candy and only to watch being stolen by someone else.
sum-1 please tell me what happen to night crawler in X2 to X3 ?
cuz i loved the first two hated the third.
he just dissapered (no pun intended).
Why does everyone think X3 was so bad compared to the first 2? I would really like to know?
Well here’s why *I* thought it wasn’t as good as the previous two:

yeah i got that, i don’t know well i really ignored it cinematically speaking because that was botched the get go. But i thought from the way singer took the characters in the first two, i thought x-3 was a vast improvment. Just a shame though that they felt the need to kill everyone. And i think the tribute to the dark phoenix saga was one of the best parts of the movie
WOW! kay, X-Men: The Last Stand wasn’t good. Considering how great the first two films were!
I cant believe some people are rating X-men here but hating transformers????
I dont get it lol
IMO the Xmen trilogy was and abortion of a film, how on earth these college directors get a hold on sacred franchises like xmen and spiderman is beyong me! The Xman trilogy was a pile of garbage!
Xmen as a hole sucked balls.
Let me direct one and it will be amazing.
Do days of future past boys and we may have a gold mine.
