Riptide Magneto Mystique X Men First Class Posters Magneto, Mystique & Riptide X Men: First Class Posters

The one-sheets released by Twentieth Century Fox thus far for X-Men: First Class have not been the film’s strongest marketing ploy, but after viewing a variety of trailers and TV spots, it didn’t matter. Now that we know the characters, the photos of them in costume have some meaning.

Over the last week, individual X-Men: First Class character posters have surfaced and we put together a gallery including Professor Charles Xavier, Angel Salvadore, Havok, Emma Frost, Beast and Azazel. Now we can add the familiar Magneto and Mystique alongside new character Riptide.

Mystique and Magneto were key characters in the main X-Men trilogy and we know where their story arcs take them in the future. X-Men: First Class explores their lives when they, alongside Charles Xavier, set out to group mutants, help them and give them purpose. Riptide on the other hand, is new to the series and his character’s history differs from that of Marvel Comics.

In the books, Riptide (Álex González) works for the infamous X-villain, Mr. Sinister, but in the film he is a henchman for Sebastian Shaw (Kevin Bacon) instead. His powers however, remain the same as the books and he is able to control wind. His appearance in our brief glimpses of him thus far are reminiscent of fan-favorite Gambit with his long hair and suave style.

We still need Dr. Moira MacTaggert, Banshee, and Darwin to round out the set.

The X-Men: First Class cast includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, Jennifer Lawrence, January Jones, Rose Byrne, Nicholas Hoult, Jason Flemyng, Zoë Kravitz, Lucas Till, Oliver Platt, Ray Wise, Edi Gathegi, Caleb Landry Jones and Álex González.

X-Men: First Class hits theaters June 3rd, 2011.

  1. They should have called this X-Men: Olan Mills

  2. I understand why they altered the movie story, but man Mystique just looks wrong in an X-Men uniform. She’s just meant to be rogue.

  3. jesus, you could eat dinner of that damn forehead :D the mystique from 1 and 2 looked alot better then this alien head (the actor who played her is super hot irl to) :D

  4. Wait-a-second Riptide?

Didn’t he die a couple times in the comics? Man they are really pulling out all of the C-List X-Men characters for this atrocity.

    • What do you mean by “atrocity” – all the reviews so far have been great?

      • Of course it’s an atrocity, especially to the many fans of the comic. I really hate it when movie- makers completely change the story of something already written. This is a classic and loved story, but screw the fans that made it popular to begin with. It is reminiscent of Percy Jackson which became a flop because the only resemblance it had to the book was it’s title!

        • Not all fans feel that way. Some are actually excited and cant wait to see it.
