x men first class cast cyclops jean grey X Men: First Class Already Casting New Cyclops & Jean Grey? [Updated]

Now that Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn is locked in to direct the X-Men: First Class for Fox, taking over for Bryan Singer who’s now just acting as a producer on the project, it’s time to sign the cast so they can start production this summer.

While I assumed we’d see some familiar faces take over the key roles of Cyclops and Emma Frost, namely Tim Pocock and Tahyna Tozzi from X-Men Origins: Wolverine, it appears that may not be the case. According to Heat Vision, the word in Hollywood is that Singer is taking the opportunity while casting for Jack the Giant Killer to find qualified candidates to play Cyclops and Jean Grey.

If this is actually happening, that would mean they could be bringing in an entirely new set of actors to play the young mutants in X-Men: First Class and not keeping those we saw in the Wolverine solo movie.

Is that good or bad? I hate recasting characters in movies still fresh in the mind of audiences, but in this case I wouldn’t mind. The only young callout mutants from X-Men Origins: Wolverine were Gambit, Cyclops and Emma and of those characters, only Tim Pocock’s Cyclops looked or acted close to the character we know from the Marvel Universe.

Another thing to keep in mind is what other characters Singer will be casting for. We’ve discussed several times before on Screen Rant that the roster is inherently flawed already because of how they introduced and utilized characters in the X-Men film timeline. Now Fox is forced to deviate in their First Class roster selection quite a bit from what we know the original X-Men team as.

The 5 core characters I’ve expected to see in X-Men: First Class since before Wolverine debuted are as follows:

  • Cyclops
  • Jean Grey
  • Emma Frost
  • Beast
  • Storm

To round out the cast, we could see Magneto’s kids since we know the story is heavily focused on the relationship between Magneto and Professor Charles Xavier. I wouldn’t be surprised to see if they work together to build the school, Cerebro and teach the first mutants before they part ways due to clashing views on mutantkind and its place in modern society.

We also know that they’ll be creating new characters for X-Men: First Class, whether that be mutants at the school and/or villains, we do not yet know. We can however, expect plenty of casting announcements soon as the plan is for X-Men: First Class to begin shooting in the next few months for a fast release next summer.

How do you feel about Cyclops and others being recast again?

  1. Well, I’ve made the conscious decision to forget every aspect of X-Men Origins: Wolverine so I couldn’t even tell you what the actors playing Cyclops and Frost look like. They need to take the time to look for some really great young actors to help get this franchise back on track.

  2. Joseph Gordon Levitt for Cyclops. He could pull of a young cyclops even though he 29.

  3. it would have been good if they just made wolverine 2 and left it at that.
not going to watch this no matter what the reviews say, xmen finished at #2 and thats final

  4. I honestly don’t care about the re-casting. I’m hoping this movie flops so Marvel can be closer to getting the rights back. Seeing as it’s Singer behind the casting, I have no faith in him at all whatsoever after seeing his tragic take on Superman! Singer just needs to go somewhere far, far away so we won’t have to suffer through his terrible movies anymore.

    • I totally agree

  5. Im one of the few people who enjoyed wolverine, but I dont care much if cyclops is recast
I do however disagree with your picks for xmen… well only one, storm.. she doesnt fit in the original 5 IMO I think it should be gambit instead, you need a left wing rebel type character

  6. umm..when did emma frost become part of the first class guys??just because she was put in “Wolverine” for script flow, doesn’t mean that character is or should be in the group..I wish they stuck closer to the comic book series-maybe have her cameo and then taken in by the hellfire club..they need to keep with the core group and not branch out or change it-Beast,Jean Grey,Cyclops,Angel(well thats ruined since he first appears in x3),Iceman(oh yeah he’s like 16 all through the last franchise,FOX screw up #2)so they’re going to have to build on the family aspect-maybe introduce Magneto’s kids, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver and Scott’s family: Corsair and Havok-with maybe some Polaris thrown in..ugh..but they have to have some crappy hollywood pre-teen gossip girly script and love triangle probably so okay put emma frost in..wtf

    • Emma Frost is a key part of the X-Men universe and was originally supposed to be big part of X3. She was intentionally included in Wolverine and will likely be a part of First Class.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we ended up finding out Cable is the son of her and Cyclops in the movie universe and not Madelyne Pryor like in the books.

Cable is a hot topic at Fox and they want to bring him into the movies.

      • Cable would be a nice addition to the big screen. This might never happen but I’d say Stephen Lang(Avatar) would be great for this role physically. Not sure if he can portray the same attitude as him but hey he did play a Colonel. lol. Let me know what you guys think.

        • Lang is one of my favorite character actors, been around for some time. Not only was he stellar in Avatar, but he was also great in last year’s “Public Enemies” (he played the Texas Ranger assigned to the FBI task force) but …YES. He would make for a good incarnation of Cable, wouldn’t he?

It would not surprise me in the least if Lang got the offer or the rumor mill says he did.

    • I don’t see what’s so wrong with the comics, either…

    • I don’t think they can use Scarlet Witch or Quicksilver. They weren’t included as part of the transaction for the X-Men film licence, were they?

  7. umm..when did emma frost become part of the first class guys??just because she was put in “Wolverine” for script flow, doesn’t mean that character is or should be in the group..I wish they stuck closer to the comic book series-maybe have her cameo and then taken in by the hellfire club..they need to keep with the core group and not branch out or change it-Beast,Jean Grey,Cyclops,Angel(well thats ruined since he first appears in x3),Iceman(oh yeah he’s like 16 all through the last franchise,FOX screw up #2)so they’re going to have to build on the family aspect-maybe introduce Magneto’s kids, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver and Scott’s family: Corsair and Havok-with maybe some Polaris thrown in..ugh..but they have to have some crappy hollywood pre-teen gossip girly script and love triangle probably so okay put emma frost in..wtf

    • Fox has critically destroyed all continuity with their handling of this franchise.

      As the current custodians of these characters they should simply quit and sell all film rights back to the rightful owners for a MARVEL STUDIOS reboot. :-}

  8. I want to know why, in such a vast marvel universe, they need to create new characters??? Whats up with that?

    • Would you prefer they screw up continuity even more?

Go back to the original story. forget the last X – movies and move on. Go for tried and proven Marvel stories.

    • I agree.Start with the original 5, fill the cast out with some secondary characters, then add more in the sequels.

  10. I dunno, on one hand it’s a good thing to reboot it so it won’t be limited in any capacity when it comes to storytelling.. however, the first 2 films by Singer were damn good that it seems like a waste to forget that ever happened.

  11. Fox should be bold and Reboot from scratch. Begin a more accurate Marvel timeline. Recast the ORIGINAL FIVE members. But they won’t, and we’ll have the same complaints unitl they do start from scratch.

  12. Personally, I would’ve preferred an X-men 4 since Professor X is alive and Magneto got his powers back so I’m guessing the cure was a flop. Introduce ms.marvel and get Rogue into some damn action for once. I hate how they made her so effin weak in the 3 X-movies.Bring Emma Frost in since she is a powerful telepath and find out if the professor really did transfer himself to the man that was with dr.moir. And what up with Mystique!? So many ideas to make a good movie but they decide to go with x-men:first class…ugh whatever i dont even know, all i gotta say is i want more gambit!

  13. It’s so frustrating how the third-party studios keep churning out these crappy adaptations which simultaneously prevent Marvel from filming their own versions. Hopefully the Kirby estate will win their lawsuit against Fox and Sony, then Disney can buy the rights back from them…

  14. I would also love to see Colossus, Iceman,

  15. Wait…..no Iceman in the original 5? No one likes sticking to the original source material huh?

    • There is no intention of respecting MARVEL’S original source material when you’re talking about Fox Studios.

They think they are presenting a more socially acceptable and realistic version of MARVEL’S characters, but in truth the Fox Studios and Bryan Singer adaptation is all about their own ill conceived ideas which only vaguely resembles the X-Men mythos.

  16. I hate recasting characters especially in superhero movies!

  17. How can they have beast as one of the 5 core members when he’s clearly seen as Hank McCoy on a tv screen in X2? He cant till put one a costume and wear a mask like in the comics but he cant be blue and furry in a prequel film and then be seen lookin human again in X2 that takes place years later. When it comes to movies, especially super hero films, i hate to see people recast, but obviously they already made their decision. So be it. Ill still see the movie but i wont bash it till after i see it.

    • Who says he´s blue in First Class?

  18. Beast is my favorite superhero of all time!!!!! I hope they get him right. it’s sooo hard for me to dislike X3 because he was in it. but i had to realize the truth and accept that his big screen debut was a bust. Beast was good, but the movie sucked.

  19. I hope Jean Grey to change to become the Dark Phoenix. because I was seeing that Jean Grey can fly. but she mustn’t become a villain.
she can control the phoenix force. and I hope her force better than in X men 3. and I hope Jean Grey ( Dark Phoenix ) must join with Selene. Selene is one of the most popular character. she is one of my favorite character. in this movie Selene mustn’t become a villain. she wanna help and join with the others.
Jean Grey ( Dark Phoenix ) and Selene are very amazing characters.

  20. The original comic book team was cyclops, jean grey, beast, iceman, and angel. There, cast those characters.

  21. Etch-A-Sketch it and start over by using the ORIGINAL X-Men andsome of Marvel’s great storylines. Who cares about what happened in the other four films..leave Emma Frost out of it..she’s overrated as a character.

    • Sadly :-( it’s Fox Studios so using the ORIGINAL five X-Men isn’t going to happen.

I would much rather see a complete reboot by MARVEL STUDIOS.

And yes, Emma Frost is an extremely over rated and boring character.

  22. Points to ponder:

    * Emma Frost could still be part of First Class. There is nothing wrong with her CHANGING SIDES. White Queen did become a villain at some point in the comics before switching back to the good? Seems how “the fans” just seem to have forgotten about that. Screenrant readers included.

    * Recasting. Let me point out something else under the radar: Jubillee had a cameo in the first X-Men by Katrina Florence, then was recast in the next two films with Kea Wong. Kitty Pryde was recast THREE times, the last one being with Ellen Page in X3. Nobody said anything, nobody raised a stink. Now we are recasting again, probably for one movie. Everyone loses their minds, or so it would seem. Also, this article says recasting Cyke and Jean Grey. It says NOTHING about recasting Emma Frost.

    * Here’s where I get everyone mad at me when I throw down this next gauntlet.

There is nothing that says “the first class” can’t be in a scuffle and are aided by a **young** Angel. Angel simply won’t be part of Xavier’s Academy, as his father will forbid it.

Think it over. In X3, Xavier and Magneto came to the Grey’s home; they convinced Jean’s parents to let Jean attend. Thus, they could approach Worthington II and he tells them to get lost. (and the extra plus is the role of dad is still played by Micheal Murphy!)

An event like this would also give some reason for Angel to change his mind in taking the cure in X3, as well as “knowing” that Xavier’s school is a home for mutants. Correct?

There is a possibility, however small, that Kelsey Grammar can return as Beast. We can simply have him, as “big foot” McCoy and then, over the course of the film, mutate into the blue fur and “outsize” his uniform. Another angle would be getting a stunt performer in the role and Grammar does a dubbed over voice.

I TOLD you guys would be angry with me.

The film will focus on the Magneto- Xavier relationship. As for bad guys go, I wouldn’t mind The Brood, but more mileage can be gained with Mr. Sinister. Sinister could have an advantage in appearing in any time, so he can show up here…

…and then in X-Men 4, alongside “a friend” of his, a certain Class Five shapeshifter, perhaps?

    • @darren j seeley. Wow, great comments. I couldn’t agree with you more. Emma frost, angel, beast and mr. sinister should all appear in the movie. I wouldn’t say mr. sinister is more interesting than magneto, but definitely more complex and creepier. I think mr. sinister would make a great villain for the movie. It would be a new idea, besides using magneto. Magneto has been the villain for x1,2,3, and in the future x-men origins: magneto. I have a question? is x-men origins: magneto before or after x-men: first class. I’d say before.

      • The Magneto Origin movie was cancelled.

  23. Besides cyclops and jean grey – storm, beast, emma frost and professor xavier should be in x-men: first class. I thought tim pocock did a great job as scott summers. Matthew vaughn should keep tim pocock as scott summers. We already have two actors portraying scott summers. We don’t need a third actor. Even if he’s a great actor. Tahyna Tozzi should be emma frost in x-men: first class. I thought she did a great job. If I recall emma frost was in her thirties, whe she was the white queen in the comics. So, there’s no need to recast the actress. If the film makers recast emma frost and make her younger, she’d be in her early teens. Which would be terrible. Professor xavier appeared at the en of x-men rigins: wolverine. So, there’s no need for recasting there. The CG enhancements made him look younger. Which I thought was a great for the timeline. Matthew Vaughn just needs to find an actress for young jean grey and beast. X-men: first class in a prequel (NOT a spin-off) to the x-men movies. So they can still use some of the cast from X-men origins: wolverine. They only mutants they could use from x-origins: wolverine is scott summers and emma frost. All of the main character mutants from x-origins: wolverine never attended professor xavier’s school for the gifted (mutant high). Except for logan ofcourse. All the mutants cameos went to xavier’s school. Which is where the film makers need to get some of thier ideas from. EX – quicksilver was in x-origins: wolverine. but, gavin hood decided to give him only a very small cameo. when he should’ve had the same amount of screen time as scott summers and emma frost. Great job gavin hood. Eric lensherr doesn’t need to be in x-men: first class. Maybe a cameo. That’s it. He became magneto in x-men origins: magneto. He was already magneto in x-men. This film needs a different main villain. There’s so many mutants they can appear in this movie. I’d say just about as many mutants that were in x-men if not less. Because, this is before or a little after xavier built the school. I could be mistaken. That means there would be less mutants than there was in x-men.

  24. This whole movie is gonna suck, even with Matt Vaughn Directing it. Fox has already completely brutalized the X-Men Universe.

  25. X men: first Class should be about the uncanny x men.
Selene Galio, Avalanche, Banshee, and Sunfire. that’s very awesome.

  26. I agree about Selene character and I would like she become a hero
in X men First Class Movie.
Selene directed her worshippers to undertake tasks that eventually allowed her to leave Nova Roma. Selene made her way to New York City, where she encountered Juggernaut at a bar. Selene planned to seduce and murder him, but was prevented from doing this when Wolverine manipulated a bar-room brawl between Juggernaut and Colossus. Selene then discovered the existence of Rachel Summers, who Selene sought to turn into her slave only to be defeated by the X-Men. Prior to the X-Men saving her, Selene had tracked Rachel down to the home of a young man named Nicholas Damiano who had let the homeless Rachel spend the night at his place. Selene savagely murdered the young man, resulting in Rachel swearing revenge against Selene.[6]

With help from one of her worshippers, Friedrich Von Roehm, Selene made contact with the Hellfire Club and forced the group to take her on as the new Black Queen. Selene became critical in the X-Men’s attempt to stop Kulan Gath, after he conquered New York City with a reality-altering spell though she ultimately attempted to doublecross the X-Men in order to steal Gath’s talisman of power.[7]

Selene’s time with the Hellfire Club was a turbulent time, due to her contempt for Sebastian Shaw and her quite open desire to rule the Hellfire Club as its sole leader. This led Shaw and Emma Frost to conspire to kill Selene by manipulating and training the young mutant Firestar to assassinate her, though this failed when Firestar realized what they were planning.[8]

Selene and the Hellfire Club’s relationship with the X-Men came to a head with Rachel Summers making an unauthorized assassination attempt on Selene. Wolverine felt honor-bound to prevent Rachel from becoming a murderer, and so, saved Selene’s life by severely injuring Summers. However, Selene was enraged, and used the incident to force the Lords Cardinal to agree to hunt and kill Rachel. A battle over this issue immediately commenced between the X-Men and Lords Cardinal, but it was unexpectedly halted when it drew the attention of Nimrod, the super-sentinel who had murdered Selene’s assistant Rhoem,[9] and who was bent on killing the X-Men and the Lords Cardinal. The Lords Cardinal and the X-Men hastily agreed to a truce, fighting well-enough to cause Nimrod to flee.

After this battle, in the pages of New Mutants, much was made about Selene having secret plans involving Nova Roma and Magma. Due to her love for Empath, Magma left the New Mutants to join the Hellions, only to be called home by her father to enter into an arranged marriage with a resident there. However, Magma’s escort back home to Nova Roma was Empath, who ultimately decided to stay in the city with her. The two became lovers and ultimately Magma was freed from her arranged marriage plans so that she could be with him. However, unknown to Magma, Selene was secretly manipulating events for reasons that have yet to be revealed due to New Mutants being revamped as “X-Force”.[volume & issue needed]

New Warriors #31 revealed, via Empath, that Nova Roma was nothing more than an elaborate lie, concocted by Selene several decades prior. In a desperate bid to try and relive happier days in which she lived in ancient Rome, Selene arranged for hundreds of people to be kidnapped and taken to the jungles of the Amazon, to a city constructed per her designs. There she was somehow able to utterly brainwash her prisoners to believe themselves ancient Roman ancestors living in the Amazon. Magma was one of these kidnapped and brainwashed souls according to Empath. The city was disbanded and the residents returned to their regular lives across the globe. Years later, due to Chris Claremont wishing to undo writer Fabian Nieciza’s dismantling of the concept of Nova Roma, Claremont ignored said story and wrote Magma as she had been originally written. He later had Magma make cryptic references to having been manipulated into believing Nova Roma was a lie by parties unknown that sought to hurt Magma by taking away her childhood home. This was haphazardly followed up by later writers, who implied that Empath used his powers to destroy the city by brainwashing the inhabitants into believing they were victims of Selene.[volume & issue needed]

Selene ultimately was the deciding vote to vote Sebastian Shaw out of the Hellfire Club, when tension between Shaw and the newly recruited White King Magneto came to blows.[10] Unknown to Magneto or Emma Frost however, Selene had decided that she no longer had any need for the Club and began plotting its destruction. Gathering an army of young mutants with help from the mutant omnipath the Gamesmaster, known as the Upstarts. Under her authority, the Upstarts engaged in a killing spree that led to many presumed deaths (Magneto, Sebastian Shaw, Donald Pierce, and the Reavers), mortal injuries (Emma Frost), and outright deaths (the Hellions). Selene manipulated her young followers with the promise of a game, where each murder committed would land them points that would ultimately lead to them being granted a prize, described as “being the next best thing to immortality” by the Gamemaster. However, with another writer change, Selene’s involvement with the Upstarts was cut short as she herself was betrayed by Trevor Fitzroy. Selene was kept in a torture device that repeatedly ripped her flesh from her body (to attract the attention of the Gamesmaster, who took advantage of the situation to proclaim himself the new leader of the Upstarts). She would be freed by Amanda Sefton, though the torture left her weak and scarred.[volume & issue needed]

Needing to replenish her power, Selene first attacked and killed the other surviving Externals. Though she was opposed by X-Force, she managed to complete the slaughter and knock out the mutants, until Cable arrived. Selene’s attempt to absorb Cable’s life backfired when she touched his techno-organic arm and she was forced to flee to maintain her power. Shortly afterwards, she tried to access the power of a mystical convergence using a Runestaff made from the roots of Yggdrasil, the Norse World Tree. She came to the Exploding Colossal Man festival in New Mexico, but was again opposed by X-Force, who managed to wrest the Runestaff away from her and destroy the Colossal Man mannequin it activated. Selene missed her opportunity for ultimate power and vowed vengeance on X-Force.[volume & issue needed]

She next appeared back in Brazil, where she had tracked Sunspot, along with Deviants posing as S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. She lured Sunspot to her defense, and offered him a position of power in the Hellfire Club, which he refused, regardless of the illusions she tempted him with. However, Sunspot went along with Selene to stop the Deviants in the Damocles Foundation from activating a Celestial Gatherer. Selene herself was attacked by the Sword strike team, but she managed to cast a spell that devolved them back to lizards. Along with the rest of X-Force, Selene was able to usurp control of the machinery that activated the Gatherer, but Moonstar and Arcadia destroyed the Celestial artifact before Selene could access its power.[volume & issue needed]

Selene then returned to her post as the Black Queen of the Hellfire Club, after striking a deal with the demon Blackheart and seemingly throwing out the rest of the Inner Circle. She offered Sunspot the position of Black Rook, which he initially refused but then accepted when Selene and Blackheart revealed that his doing so would allow them to resurrect the spirit of Juliana Sandoval, the girl who died saving Sunspot’s life when he first joined the New Mutants. Sunspot had no choice to accept and become Selene’s protégé.[volume & issue needed]

However, with Sebastian Shaw’s return to the Hellfire Club, Selene was somehow trapped inside the catacombs under the Club. However, she gained limited mobility from an alliance with Donald Pierce. When the X-Men, including Rachel Summers arrived, during a membership change in the Hellfire Club, Selene plotted to use Rachel to completely free herself. She followed Rachel to Hong Kong via a transport portal and saved her from being corrupted by a telepathic agent of Courtney Ross, who was trying to become the next White Queen. This move was only a prelude to Selene taking over Rachel’s mind, but Marvel Girl was too strong for Selene and expelled her, keeping Selene trapped for a time beneath the Hellfire Club headquarters.[volume & issue needed]

  27. I would like with Uncanny X men. and I totally agree with all of people who request Dark Phoenix for in X men First Class Movie.
and I want you to grant my dream and all of people.

She was thus an easy target for the illusionist Mastermind,[10] who needed a trophy to join the Inner Circle of the prestigious (and infamous) Hellfire Club. With the help of a psionic device created by the club’s White Queen, Emma Frost, Mastermind made Jean believe that she was his 18th-century lover Lady Grey.[11] Jean joined the club as their Black Queen,[12] which would allow her to relish the extremes of human emotion and sensuality. When the X-Men came to her rescue, Jean’s true love, Cyclops, faced Mastermind in a psychic duel and was defeated.[13] His “death” broke Mastermind’s hold over Jean’s psyche–as well as any control Jean had had over the Phoenix.[14] It brushed aside the X-Men and departed for the heavens.

As the Phoenix is the light and life of the universe, the Dark Phoenix represents power and destruction. The Phoenix will become Dark Phoenix if it allows human emotions to cloud its judgment. In this state, Phoenix is the strongest, but also is an evil entity. It thirsts for power and destruction. Totally uncontrollable, it is a force to be reckoned with as it is not bound by a human conscience. When Dark Phoenix flew back into space, her true firebird form was seen across the entire universe and even attracted the attention of Eternity.
First Appearance of the Phoenix Force

To sate its hunger, the Dark Phoenix flew to a distant galaxy and devoured the star of the D’Bari system.[15] The resulting nova killed billions of innocent people. A Shi’ar vessel attacked it and managed to alert the Shi’ar Empress Lilandra before they were destroyed. The empress called a council of her intergalactic counterparts, including the Kree and Skrull empires. They concluded that, for the rest of the universe to live, Dark Phoenix must die.
    Dark Phoenix

Meanwhile, the Beast had found a way to neutralize Phoenix’s power temporarily. When it returned to Earth, the X-Men held it at bay while Professor X rebuilt the circuit breakers in Jean’s mind that Mastermind has broken down. At that moment the Shi’ar arrived and teleported everyone aboard their flagship. Lilandra announced that Phoenix, and thus Jean Grey-Summers, would have to die. Professor X, unwilling to give up on one of his pupils, but romantically involved with Lilandra, challenged her to Arin’n Haelar, a Shi’ar duel of honor that cannot be refused. Professor X named the X-Men as his champions in the duel, Lilandra her Imperial Guard.

The duel took place the next day in the Blue Area of the Moon. The Imperial Guard made short work of the X-Men, leaving Cyclops and Phoenix to make a final stand. A stray bolt hit Cyclops. Jean’s control broke, and she became the Dark Phoenix again. Lilandra ordered Plan Omega, which would destroy the whole solar system in hopes of eliminating Dark Phoenix as well. Professor X ordered the X-Men to subdue Jean so that Plan Omega would not be necessary, and they managed to subdue the Phoenix for a brief time. In this moment of lucidity, Jean fled into a back alley with Cyclops in pursuit. She subdued him with her telekinesis and told him that she was losing control of herself and that there was only one way to prevent the Phoenix from taking dominance over her again. Unbeknownst to Cyclops, as Jean was talking to him, she was using her powers to activate an ancient Kree energy weapon behind her. Jean then bade him an emotional farewell and triggered the weapon, which atomized her on the spot.
    Madelyne Pryor

It was at the moment of the Dark Phoenix’s death that a spark of the Phoenix Force was accidentally bestowed on Jean’s clone, Madelyne Pryor. After Dark Phoenix died on the moon, the Phoenix had sought to return the “borrowed” portion of Jean Grey’s soul back to her body which was in suspended animation. Jean instinctively rejected the Phoenix and it wandered the globe, lost. Eventually it became attracted to Madelyne Pryor since she was an exact genetic clone of Jean. The Phoenix Force mistakenly gave a spark of itself to Madelyne, granting her a life force and some of Jean’s memories.[17] Part of the Phoenix Force remained with Madelyne until she also committed suicide. As Madelyne died, a reawkened Jean recovered the part of her soul the Phoenix Force had mistakenly given to Madelyne.

Over the years whenever Jean Grey’s powers flared, many of her teammates feared Dark Phoenix’s return, although Dark Phoenix had never actually been Jean Grey. After once again merging with the Phoenix Force, Jean had all of Dark Phoenix’s memories and she felt the weight of five billion lives upon her soul.

  28. it will be very sweet ! there must be uncanny x men, Selene and Dark Phoenix. they must become heroes for the first class.

  29. I would love to see laura prepon fron the 70s show as jean grey she looks great as a red head, she’s tough, sexy, and a good actress I think she would be perfect. I also hope that gambit returns in this movie.
