Bryan Singer's original X-Men adaptation introduced a group of heroes and a group of villains. In the sequels, only a few of the latter characters returned, leaving the likes of Tyler Mane's Sabretooth and Ray Park's Toad seemingly gone forever as Magneto and Mystique carried out their business with other mutants.

With X-Men: Days of Future Past introducing the concept of time travel into the long-running franchise, there's no reason the studio and its creatives cannot bring back familiar faces and that's exactly what they're planning to do. The core group of younger X-Men: First Class characters returns for the majority of the Days of Future Past story while its future-set plot involves most of the returning characters from the original X-Men trilogy (now, minus Anna Paquin's Rogue).

Speaking with MTV, Evan Jonigkeit revealed that the unannounced character he's playing in X-Men: Days of Future Past is Toad. He'll be playing a younger version of the nasty, bird-eating version played by Ray Park who got fried by Storm's lightning (after delivering one of the worst lines in Marvel movie history) in the original film.

Jonigkeit, a fan of the books, will very likely have minimal screen time and dialogue - sadly like most of the characters we know about - but he does confirm that his Toad does setup the Ray Park version from the original X-Men, but is quite a bit different.

"I read a lot of the comic books. I found out the storyline of my character, who is Toad. X-Men fans will know that Ray Park played him in the first movie, so it's a generation story of how he came to be. It's really cool."

"The aesthetics of the character are much different, and I'm not really allowed to say a whole lot more than that," he said. "It's darker. I would say it's a darker tone."

Could we be seeing a more mutant-looking version of the character than we did in the first film? Will there be a few more ties and lead-ins from Days of Future Past to the original X-Men? Does the timeline even make sense to have Toad in the '70s? We's expect to see Toad cross paths with Magneto and join his cause and team known as the "Brotherhood."

In related news, a leaked script page for X-Men: Days of Future Past found temporarily on TMT reveals that in the future segments of the story, X-Men hero Colossus goes head-to-head with one of the larger, more advanced mutant-hunting Sentinel robots. It's not a major revelation or a surprise, but it's at least interesting to think about what sort of action the film will deliver, especially considering it's on track to be the most expensive superhero ever.
