Iceman, Kitty Pryde & Rogue Return For ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’

2 years ago by

After Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan signed on to return as (older) Professor X and Magneto, respectively, for X-Men: Days of Future Past, it was a given that franchise poster boy Hugh Jackman would soon follow. Director Bryan Singer made that so and informed the world via Twitter, where he’s been slowly dropping hints and teases of what fans should expect from the X-Men: First Class sequel.

While the likes of Famke Janssen and January Jones remain unsure of their return, Singer announced today that three more X-Men trilogy mutants will be back for Days of Future Past.

Thanks to this tweet, X-Men fans can look forward to seeing Iceman, Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat and Rogue back on the big screen. Hugh wasn’t kidding when he teased an X-Men trilogy cast reunion.

Did Singer just take a shot at Brett Ratner for killing off Cyclops and Phoenix? Is this a subtle hint that there’s no chance of James Marsden returning? At least these black leather costumes won’t be returning either:

It took three films for Bobby Drake (Ashmore) to actually become Iceman (just for a moment) and three films for Marie D’ancanto to not become Rogue. It’s a safe bet that Anna Paquin’s character will finally have some mutant powers (outside of temporarily absorbing them) this time around as she was vocal about not ever evolving to participate in the action while doing press for X-Men: The Last Stand.

As for Kitty Pryde, she was a must-include for fans of Marvel Comics since the Days of Future Past storyline revolves around her character. In the books, an aged Kitty Pryde is able to transfer her consciousness back to her younger self (in the present) in order to prevent the assassination of Senator Robert Kelly which began a war where the giant anti-mutant Sentinel robots scour the land, hunting down the X-Men and all other mutants.

Since First Class took place in the ’60s, it’s possible that the ‘present’ in the film follows the younger X-Men led by James McAvoy’s  Xavier and the ‘future’ is the original X-Men team who could be residing in an alternate timeline where some event in the ’60s or ’70s is the new cause for the mutant hysteria – due to some other anomaly in the timeline. Could this be used to introduce one of the fan-favorite time-travelling characters such as Bishop or Cable? Will Senator Robert Kelly be involved?

Singer aims to make sense of the continuity of the films while also broadening out the X-Men universe to compete with Marvel Studios’ The Avengers, and it’ll be interesting to see what comes of his ambitious ideas.

Who else would you like to see return for the next X-Men team-up?

The Wolverine hits theaters July 26, 2013. X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theaters on July 18th, 2014.

  2. This is really cool, but I wish they would of kept it a secret.

  3. So funny when people complain so much and they only info they have are little bits and pieces of the cast lineup. It’s so difficult to entertain people anymore. I guess I’m just a shallow, simple caveman.

  4. Maybe Famke’s Phoenix sent scott into the future, the jean side of her personality taking over long enough to ensure scott’s safety. Scott brings back his own son, Cable… let the time travel party begin.

    • Man, good call – hopefully Singer sees that post. He’s a smart director and he wants to do it justice, he’ll figure out a way but your thoughts are genius.

  5. Not a fan. Sell the rights back to Marvel and let Marvel studios make a real Xmen movie. At this point you’re just mashing Xmen movies.

    • +1

  6. I’d rather see a monkey in an X-men suit than have to be tortured by watching Anna Paquin play Rogue for 1 more minute.

    • Thank goodness someone agrees with me!

  7. Oh come one…please dont leave out Gambit again!! please give the guy a break!! he really needs a good X-men movie to shine among the others!

    • totally agree on that! but now that it doesnt seem he will appear on Days of future past, lets hope Fox and producers have him in mind for next sequel, hopefully on present time, with Scott back as the f**** leader.

Just imagining a sequel with Cyclops leading a team of Wolverine, Storm, Rogue, Gambit, Beast, Iceman, Nightcrawler, Angel and Kitty… oh guys, I would die happy

  8. I ask you up front to forgive the ranting of a fanboy but all of the characters mentioned were not even a part of the original story. Uncanny X-men 141 & 142. Prof. X is dead along with Cyclops, Iceman and several others. The living members are: Storm, Kitty Pryde, Colossus, Wolverine, Havoc & Magneto, along with a small supporting cast. But being that this franchise has already been screwed I guess it really doesn’t matter.

And for those hoping that Marvel regains control over this franchise. It’ll never happen. It makes too much money for Fox.

  9. I hate to say this, considering I liked X-Men 1 & 2 and First class as movies(even though first class was nothing at all like the source material) but the more I hear about this movie, the more sick of it I’m getting. And to think this is just the minor stuff that we’ve heard about the movie. once it gets closer to release date, theyll be shoving the news in our faces day after day, and I’m guna guess that there will be a shitton of characters in it from all the movies. I was excited about this when I first heard about last year in August, but now I’m worried. As many ppl have said before and rightly so, Fox is getting too ambitious. They dont kno how to make comic book movies. Fantastic four flicks were terrible, x-men the last stand and origins wolverine were terrible, and even x-men first class was not a good comic book movie. As a movie alone it was great, which is why I dont bash it, I even own the dvd and have watched it many times. But I feel fox is just rushing everything since marvel studios has done a 1000x better job at showing how to do great comic book movies and how to do great movies in general that everyone can enjoy, and overall how to build a shared and comprehensible cinematic universe. The x-men movies as a whole are a complete mess with plot holes galore. And now by doing the days of future past storyline, its guna get more confusing. Time travel is very confusing and honestly everything they are trying to fix wont be solved wit wat they are planning. First class is still guna have plot holes wit the original trilogy, since it will exist in both timelines. The days of future past will be the start of the next timeline, and the problem wit that is that there will be too many mutants. But something tells me that days of future past will be such a disaster that there wont be any x-men movies after that which relate to the previous 7 movies (which will also include the wolverine this summer). Yes I understand that eventually the avengers movies will have a ton of heroes in it, whether its as early as avengers 3 but probably after. But the fact that marvel studios has origin movies and sequels with these heroes separately to tell their own stories and then brings them all together is wat makes it work. If a hero in a future flick, such as ms. marvel, doesnt get alot of time in watever future avengers movie shes in, then its not that big of a deal because she would prob be in her own movie prior. the same goes for the other heroes that we’ve seen and ones that we havent seen yet. Even other characters without their own movie will appear in other heroes feature films and get a good amount of screen time. I hope that fox proves me wrong wit days of future past, but I’m not being too optimistic, and everyone else has a right to be worried also. As many ppl have said before, fox has not done a good job at all and cant even remember wat they did in their previous x-men films. This x-men/fantastic four cinematic universe is going to fail. I hope warner bros/DC can get their s*** together also cuz at least they have potential. sry for the rant lol

  10. Gambit. I don’t care. About anyone else. Obviously a new gambit is preferred. But he was the second most popular x man after wolverine through out the 80s and 90s

  12. Ok, I’m really confused now. Is this a sequel to First Class or X3? Because it isn’t a sequel to First Class in any way. So is it X4 or a variation on X4? Because I heard that they were making an X4 a while back. Is this it? Or is this something completely different? Is this some kind of weird prequel except with everyone in the main X-series involved? Then why not just make this X4 if you’re going to do that? Odd, very odd.

Edit: Ah I see, it’s an actual, literal mashup of the past and current XMen series. Like Men in Black 3 kind of… Yeah, no. Except maybe.

    • Now you’re starting to capture the joys of time travel. Utter, complete confusion. I thought it was the first movie mutants traveling back to the First Class mutants, but that wouldn’t work if they are trying to stop a huge mutant war from their past b/c that hasn’t happened in the original dimension. Maybe the wheels got set in motion during the First Class timeline. Maybe there are more than 2 dimensions colliding. That would make the most sense.

Maybe Kenyan children hijack a cruise ship and learn the value of friendship. Maybe transvestites go on the Oprah show in the 1970′s and discuss the dangers of this chemical that has killed more people than any other substance and is comprised of two hydrogen and one oxygen elements. Maybe the B from that B in apartment 23 finally shaves her armpits for money in the interweb. Maybe the….what is that ringing? Do I have a tumor?

  14. i am so looking forward to rogue i hope to god they do more with her she is one of the most powerful mutants ever so why not devolep her character more they were fine the first movie but in the second they should of done something the third movie sucked as a xmen freak i want them to live up to the charcters this is the last time i watch a xmen movie if they dont improvte the characters they r mutants with powers i want to see those powers brough to life pls ps love anna paquin

  15. Love Kitty Pryde

  16. Uhh! I hated Anna Paquin as Rogue! She looks nothing like her and is a horrible actress! (Acting as Rogue, I mean) She made Rogue act like a weakling in the X-men movies! Rogue is my favorite x-man and the reason I love her is for her rough and tough tomboy fashion! And where the HELL is Gambit! Bring back the team from the 90s X-men! They were the best!

    • Yes, agree with u. Rogue suppose to have an affair with Gambit not with Iceman cause in the comics, He shared a passionate kiss with Mystique. She’s Rogue adoptive Mother. o.O

  17. Where’s Jubilee?? Jubilee please!!!

  18. I am so glad to know that Rogue will get powers now, and I agree with everyone that her role as rogue was wasted in 1,2,3 as I loved x-men from childhood since 1983 can’t wait to see the movie really exited.

    • I think we should bring in Firestar or The Dazzler…or Black Cat
